Thank you everyone for your replies.
This is what I'm most interested in. Pedaling varies, so I'd like to know the efficiency for motor-only, maybe at a set speed, such as 20mph. I think that this figure is just as important as top speed.
Okay, after a little bit of sleuthing, the ebay seller is chinarichroc2009 (http://myworld.ebay.com/chinarichroc2009) AKA Zita Huang of RICHROC (http://myworld.ebay.com/chinarichroc2009)

@dnmun & Dogman:
Thanks for the advice, that's a lot more than I though that I'd be able to do with a voltmeter!

Okay, so I'm going to look at a LiFePO4 48v 20ah battery back that's for sale on craigslist for $200.

But am wondering if it has a function to measure battery capacity.
Thanks for the help.

So what does the "s" mean? What is the voltage per "s'"?
Thanks.
I have always thought that they would be great e-bikes, but couldn't see a good way to use a hub motor on it because of the 14mm dropouts.
How did you do it?
I thought that SLA recycling was one of the most successful. I think one of those "how it's done" basic cable TV shows they showed a recycling plant in the US that did SLAs. A lot of e-waste recycling truly is a problem, but I'm not so sure that this is the case with SLA batteries.
