    Reserve "Hill climbing battery"

Dogman wrote: I have just ordered the stand alone Cycle Analyst so I should have no problem monitoring the voltage. I wouldn't mind buying a 12 V 10 AH lipo if I can find one. I really appreciate your comments - I have only built one bike from a kit - other than woodworking tools (portable...

    Reserve "Hill climbing battery"

Dogman wrote: I have plenty of speed - I need torque on a long hill - 3/4 of a mile, steady grade, 320 ft. of vertical. It's the last hill going home from work to my house. On a freshly charged battery (my 36 V Li/Ion) is adequate. At the end of a 8 mile commute home from work it 'sags" and...

    Reserve "Hill climbing battery"

Thanks everyone for the replies - My motivation is I spent hundreds of dollars for a 36 V battery when I really need a 48 V battery and probably a higher torque motor. A couple of questions - Is there any problem in putting a 12 V SLA in series with a 36 V Lithium 10 AH Ion battery? Should...

    Reserve "Hill climbing battery"

I meant to say "wired in series". I think at best this "kludge" might cause more problems - e.g. an overheated motor while not really supplying much more "torque". I have an AmpedBike DD front motor. I may try building a rear wheel geared motor system on a used bike.

    Reserve "Hill climbing battery"

Most of the time the power provided by my 36 V 10 A Lithium is adequate, however it's not powerful enough with my front wheel DD motor to get me up steep hills. I end up walking to the top. Has anyone devised a system where you can "switch" a 12 Volt battery into parallel with the 36 V when...

Help! Yuba e-conversion vs Trek e-conversion

I converted a TREK after months of reading and thinking I understood the tradeoffs concerning an e bike build. As usual when building something I had little experience with - I didn't know what "I didn't know". I strongly recommend you keep things simple at first and build a prototype...

    Ampedbikes battery or Ping battery?

I have an Amped "Tube" battery. It's well made. Initially, I had some FET problems but Amped always came through for me and fixed things quickly. It helps that I live close enough to drive to their shop. I do wish they were more communicative on their website concerning issues and...

    wood bike frame build..PICS ADDED

I have a German made Klepper "folding kayak". The frame is made out of Ash and Birch Plywood. It's incredibly strong and reasonably light weight for a Kayak. I'll be following your build with great interest

Chased by dog/ dog gets chased.

That sequence of you chasing the dog is way too cool! Anyone who has ever been chased by a dog when running or biking can really relate to how you've turned the tables here... E bike takes "man bites dog" to a new level! (Dogman chases dog)

what type of throttle do you prefer

My kit (Amped) came with a thumb throttle. After several long rides using fingerless bike gloves, the tenons in my hand and wrist became sore and started cramping. I saw on another forum a suggestion to use heavy gloves. I had a pair of bike gloves with fingers - they work great. They...

I've noticed I'm saving more money than I thought I would

The reason your saving much more money than you realized is that operating a car is quite expensive. The true cost per mile for a car is much higher than most realize - Even an efficient car costs about $0.50 per mile to operate. That's how much a business usually will pay you for driving on a...

    eBike Crash: Wet wooden bridge...

I've went down similarly on a small Honda motorcycle in loose sand using the front brake. Great video - good warning for all!

Any chance that electric bikes will be more popular..

I think the game changer for e bikes and all EVs will be the next wave of battery technology. Northwestern University researchers are devising a new Lithium/Carbon/Silicon sandwich battery which will carry 10 times the energy per weight as the current ones. In addition, they claim they'll...
