Minimal Assistance Setup for Young Mind/Old Body

Yes, that's right minimal assistance, so if you are all about speed and power this post is not for you. Now for the few remaining who might be interested in a way to set up an ebike to give you minimal assistance please read on: First I love the whole idea of an ebike, however I hate that I'm...

E-Bike Chains...or Alternatives Due To Supply Issues

No, you said "The ones I tried never lasted any longer". I"m asking which ones you tried...that didn't last any longer.

E-Bike Chains...or Alternatives Due To Supply Issues

Thanks for the feedback, can you provide the make and model of those chains? That way I'll know not to waste time on them.

E-Bike Chains...or Alternatives Due To Supply Issues

OK folks, I've been looking for an e-bike specific chain (10 speed), but not much available at a decent price. By that I mean less than $45. Any suggestions for either where to look, or perhaps alternatives. By alternatives, I mean non e-bike specific that perform well on mid-drive systems...

Conversion Solution for Blue Ridge Parkway (hill assist)

I've been struggling to figure out the lightest geared hub motor I can get that will not overheat on 5-10 mile hill climbs (5-7%). I'm not convinced there are any kit motors rated at 250-350 watts that are up to the task. From what I've been able to find the 250-350 motors weigh in at around...

Conversion Solution for Blue Ridge Parkway (hill assist)

Thanks for the input! The TSDZ2 seems like a great idea but I've read mixed reviews and it seems the bad speaks louder than the good. It's always hard to tell if the product is weak, or the operator contributed to the problem. It makes sense the G310 hub would not contribute as well at low...

Conversion Solution for Blue Ridge Parkway (hill assist)

I think it proves there would be little to no factor of safety. At this point I'd rather have an extra 2 lbs. if it means I can avoid a potential problem.

Conversion Solution for Blue Ridge Parkway (hill assist)

Yep, the G10 simulator shows it to be fine under those parameters. However it overheats in 27 minutes if you change the 5% to 7%. As I stated I was peddling about 80 rpm’s, if I wasn’t I would have stopped since there was no throttle. I appreciate the feedback, but I don’t agree there wasn’t...

Conversion Solution for Blue Ridge Parkway (hill assist)

Both bike had a minimalist setup. Orbea doesn't even have a display. Amber, green and red lights for power levels. I can tell you the pull they had by comparison were relative to the torque ratings. I guess what I learned was a 250W hub motor with 40Nm of torque didn't do what I needed...

Conversion Solution for Blue Ridge Parkway (hill assist)

At this point I'm ready to admit, you'll probably right about these ideas perhaps not being realistic. The fact that nobody has chimed in to say anything about using torque settings for cadence says it may not be worth worrying about. In the end it may just be a simple case of finding good...

I usually ride in the mornings, maybe they don't start running moonshine until later in the day.

Conversion Solution for Blue Ridge Parkway (hill assist)

All thanks for the input. Based on comments it seems that setting up the throttle to assist during hill climb might be an option. Here are the options I'm now considering for hill climbing assistance: 1. Torque sensors with hub drive (haven't found add-on mid drive with torque sensors). Pros...

Conversion Solution for Blue Ridge Parkway (hill assist)

I hate to break it to you, but the BRP is much safer than almost all other roads on North Carolina. Most of the time there are very few cars. Most traffic in NC is around Ashville, but there are also more bikers in that area so I've never had a problem. I have the Garmin Varia rear view radar...
