I've been off this site for a while and pretty much away from open source since it became so easy to create a blog on google blogger for free that is so much easier and friendlier to manage than something like wordpress... which like phpbb is getting pretty long in the tooth. I recently got back...
I've built a few ovens including tempering ovens for glasswork.. furnace for molten glass... and a lower temp oven for blowing sheet acrylic into a canopy. I dont know the temp required for tempering aluminum but would be much cheaper and easier to build out of sheet metal with insulation...
Unfortunately it was due in part to my own negligence... I had burned some grass at the end of my shop early that morning... it was a very small amount and appeared to be out... had checked on it again later and appeared to be fine. I came out about 2:30 in the afternoon and smoke was coming...
On November 30th I had a fire that burned my shop to the ground.... 25 plus years of collectables including everything from a potters wheel... a hand loom... a world war 2 vintage motor generator type 250 DC welder and all manor of things in between up in smoke. While you can never replace a...
To my mind full suspension implies off road use and not a commuter. I prefer the tube frame look with the boxed area for batteries. Mid drive for sure... Dont really care for pedals... particularly when they are just to make it appear to be a bicycle. My old butt would prefer a motocross seat...
I saw something new at lowes yesterday. A riding mower with what appeared to be brushed DC motors on the blades. It was a bit odd because the front looked more like an ATV. It had dual a arms front suspension and at first I thought it might be all electric but it had a gas engine with a...
I was looking at these not long ago for possible RC motor drive. Has disc brakes and front suspension. Drive through sprocket mounted where rear disc brake mounts.
edit:
Looks like the link I provided is broken.... here is a pic of the kick scooter I was referring to.
I would just put a water ski on the front of the death bike.... a fat sand digger tire on the back with paddles on it.... a flying start from the bank.... and don't slow down. Could be the first motorcycle to pull a wheelie on water.
I'm curious to know how much reduction you had when running the RC motors. With props that large even with a low pitch I'm thinking it would take a minimum of 50 to 1 and probably more. It does not take much prop at all to properly load a 5 hp motor. Take a look at the prop size on the Torqeedo...
I too am a big fan of wooden boats and boat building.... in particular stitch and glue type contruction. I've wanted to visit the area where this event is held and the Okume Fest put on by Chesapeake Light Craft. I have a couple of hulls in work and want to build a poor mans version of a Pacific...
Those are huge props... would take a ton of reduction... I've had good luck with 48 volt 100 amp esc's on 6354 size motors... you've got to be geared right. Those props look homemade... are they? A couple of 8085 motors might be the ticket.
I recently put one of the 1000 watt 48 volt ebay motors on a mountain bike. I have 15ah at 48 volts. My other build is a recumbent trike with an RC motor on it and I have been surprised to find that it is more efficient than the hub motor. It is about a 2500 watt motor with serious acceleration...
I'd agree with that... which class are you planning on running in? The rules on the site say 8 KW limit. In the class 2 they expect the boats to be on plane for the entire race. Was your boat able to plane with your setup?
Curious what RC motor setups you have tried? I like the dragon tail...
