Premature power loss in headway pack

Ok problem solved. Turned out the controller was set to 65v cutoff because it came from a linmo2 battery. Now everything runs fine!. i'm so happy  Just one more question. It kind of worries me that the connectors for balance leads get pretty warm when balancing. is this normal? I...

Premature power loss in headway pack

i've found the problem!! its the controller itself. i've tested my system with another controller and it ran perfect. lots of continuous power! Battery was fine right from the start. I did some stupid things with this controller in the past like cutting one of the shunts to make it draw less...

Premature power loss in headway pack

Sorry for bordering... Turned out it is a bad connection after all... Deeply ashamed  I connected the headway cells together with a threaded pin in pairs of 2 . seems like that isnt working so now i'm going to replace all connections with stainless steel rings. Should work right?

Premature power loss in headway pack

I posted a link in my first post and its rated for 80 amps contentiously . http://www.batterybms.com/64v20spcmbmspcbforlifepo4batterypack/PCB-D131.html Its well over spec'ed for my 45amp controller. Also I just tried the bike it without the bms and it has even more power then ever. No power...

Premature power loss in headway pack

I assembled the pack myself yes and i connected the cells with self made 6 gauge wire. I soldered long tips and squashed them into an O ring. Than sandpapered and cleaned them. They actually have a pretty large contact area so i guess they make good contact. And i Checked the individual cells...

Premature power loss in headway pack

Okay. I have this 20 cell headway battery pack with http://www.batterybms.com/64v20spcmbmspcbforlifepo4batterypack/PCB-D131.html this bms. The problem is that at full charge i've got full power out of my 45amp controller and already after a few meters the power drops substantially. The cells...

    Headway cell manufacturing dates

Thanks for clearing this up!. I've bought the cells from a german model car company. http://shop.strato.de/epages/61333079.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61333079/Categories/%22A123-AHR32113M1-AMP20-HEADWAY%2038120%20HEADWAY%2040160%22 Cells all read 3.33v so i guess they're okay for now.

    Headway cell manufacturing dates

I ordered 20 headway 40152 s cells and i noticed there is a date on them that says 13-09-05. Does this mean the cells are almost 9 years old? And don't these cells have expiration dates?

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

How can i put an s3 pack in series with an s4 pack? That would be even more useless... Or i have to rebuild both packs to 3s which might not be bad idea but an insane amount of work.. And sorry for not having another $400 for a new pack laying around...

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

I found out the problem off all the death cells! its the frikin bms that some how discharges my cells at the 3th balance lead. I just managed to save another cell by disconnecting the balance wires. All the cells that are death now were on the 3th balance wire. The cell was reading 2.7 when i...

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

The 1st death cell (the one that died a year ago) is completely death reading 0.0v and the other one 0.6v So I think its safe to assume they are death. And yes I measured them directly on the cells itself. And the cells died just like that in a matter of days. I have a cycle annalist so i can...

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

Well. It turns out it was the voltage regulator but unfortionly it only goes to 36v and i actually needed 34v but i'm very happy with it anyhow!!. Also i noticed 1 of the 2 chargers outputted 43v instead of 42 so maybe thats why it never balanced properly. Also both chargers have coil/cap whine...

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

Well it turned out to be a blue pot not yellow. It says VR = Voltage regulator??

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

Yeah thats what i figured.. Still don't really understand why thats a bad thing besides the extra heat issue. Posting some pics of the charger pcb first thing tomorrow. Many thx so far. I kind of gave up on that pack already and i knew it wasn't going to last long charging like this but i...

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

There is a yellow potmeter inside that charger but dont have a clue if its for volt adjusting. And how can it taper the amps? And what causes it to taper the bms/charger/voltage" equalibrium" from the charger to battery?

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

They are factory assembled battery packs not rc car lipo's. Its a Golden motors 36v/16ah pack that i run in series on a 35amp controller. I have another pack thats exactly the same and it still works fine after almost 3 years so its not my fault for killing the first 4 cells. Many people have...

Charging a 28v lithium pack with a 42v/36v charger bad?

Here is the problem. I have a 36 linmo2 (16ah) battery pack with 40 cells in it. 8 out the 40 died and i bypassed them to make the continuing to work so that leaves me with 28v nominal (32.9v charged). The bms is disigned to cut off if any cell reaches 4.15v and it doesn't measure the whole...

    premature lvc by overdischarge?

Well it has been a while 8) . Csm thx for the help m8  I kind of bypassed the faulty cells and that solved the lvc problem for about a year. A couple of weaks ago i wanted to take my bike for a spin and it ran out of juice after like 20min ride time again. Now i'm having the exact same...

    bypassing faulty cells

I dissembled the 42v charger and it does have a little pot meter covered with glue. How big are my chances that this is indeed a voltage regulator? And can i just dail the thing a little bit without anything exploding? Edit: Probably a bad idea after all so i just stick with the original...

    bypassing faulty cells

I'm saving money now to get 72v/16ah headway system so this only need to work for a couple of months.. The label says lifepo4 but everyone that i showed this pack at on the golden motor forum tells me they are linmo2 cells... The cells themselves dont have any label or markings whatsoever...

    bypassing faulty cells

Because their arnt any cells like these available in the Netherlands + i have no idea what kind of cells these are. They could be lifepo4 or linmo2. Its eighter work around them or trough the pack away. And amberwolf, thx for the info so far. I have a look into that Fechter Mini Meanwell...
