I went with 6s but I wouldn't mind trying an 8s setup just to see what the speed difference is I ended up buying 5 of the 6s 6600maH Multistar batteries. 2 have gone into the original battery box in place of the 2 8000maH and the other 3 into a rack mounted box. So up to 33000maH on the bike...

Looks like my battery pack is near stuffed. Neither brick will balance charge properly, one cell ( same on each) is always .1v higher than the rest. It is also only getting get to about 10km before the warning buzzer kicks in when previous I have got to 35km on the same ride. Does anyone have an...

I was using one of those HobbyKing Eco 6. Cheap I guess but I would have preferred if it had stopped working. I thought my batteries were stuffed but when it did it on both batty packs on the same cell I got suspicious. Hopefully it hasn't damaged the batteries. I did previous have an Eco 8 and...

Nice price. I'm still hesitant to cut a case but a hard case may convince me. The best I can do is 16ah which isn't too bad but the down side is its rather expensive if 1 pack fails. Other combos I've looked at either reduce the capacity a fair bit or have too much wasted space left over. 12 ah...

I did 2 6s of 8ah each which didn't involve any real hacking of the case , eg cutting the sides. . Not quite as fast as an 8s but still ok. It will easily do 15km with sensible pedalling. I've done 27km in one trip and there was still something left. If you want to incorporate some sort of BMS...

I know what you are saying about the risk of one cell going low and not being picked up by that sort of setup. Its more a case of just another warning system. As I'm not the only one who is riding these bikes the more protection/warning the better. I would still use the alarm monitoring for each...

No doubt they would be the old NiMH. But having extra battery cases I think can be handy and you never know your luck one of the batteries may still be useable. I thought both of mine were stuffed but one at least came back to being at least useful.Still being used but have no idea of the range...

Two batteries makes it more interesting. But $800 is still a bit too much.

7 !! I've just started changing the controller on the 2nd bike I have after 2 years. The first one is still running well even if the motor does get quite hot at times. The battery did get badly out of balance on one cell but seems to have recovered.

Heres some photos ( I thought I had more ) Before anyone asks , they are the nanotech 8000mAh. More expensive yes but smaller so I knew they would fit in the battery box without any cutting. A trade off I was willing to make. :) I probably should get rid of the top ribbing or put in...

The Aprilia had 2 x 30A blade fuses and a couple of 5A for the 12v feed. I've put 1 40A in at the moment. I'll see if I can post some pictures of my setup and see if anyone can find any major concerns. It all looks nicely padded and secure though I may have to add an extra piece of foam to stop...

Some are being a little harsh on your title, it wasn't that far away from a LiPo fire. What fuse setup were you using. Its now got me questioning my simple setup but I'm only running 6s and maybe 30A so auto fuses should still be up to it. If I did the connections well enough :? How do you...

Yeah, I preferred the thumb throttle but cut my loses and went with something more reliable :? So did you kill the batteries ? .Any idea what actually caused it ? A bit of a coincidence that this has come up as the part I needed to put the fuse on came today. What Amp fuse were you using ...

My first potential battery supplier said no, so I'm trying another. I'm hoping this one http://www.pingbattery.com/servlet/the-8/lifepo4-lithium-phosphate-iron/Detail can be modified to fit the Aprilia box. It is a little more power at 10 AH, but should pretty much fill the box so I can't go...

Thats why a lot of people do the throttle conversion. The assist can be a bit flakey and can take some getting use to. The bike is also virtually unrideable without some sort of assist even on the flat. If you're young and fit then you possibly are better off with a nice light non assisted bike...

I have 3 good size hills on the way home, 1 a long one but on the bitumen , the other 2 are short on a rather rutted and gravelled road. I find before these hills the motor is only reasonably warm. Theres also a moderate sloped long hill just before getting home. By the time I'm finished you...

I am trying to pedal as much as possible though on the return trip the throttle does get used a fair bit more. And its not just because its mostly uphill :) . Got to get that fitness up. Today was 23km , 7.96Ah used . So it seems fairly consistent. I'd say 28-29km to 3.7v. Probably do a bit...

A bit of an update on my LiPo conversion. All connected and works fine so far. There is a bit of extra power, not much but noticeable on the hills.I guess the voltage sag isn't as bad. Range I still don't know but today I took it to 20km for 7.76Ah used and the cells sitting at 3.85v...

I know my connectors from the controller aren't flash. Hasn't cut out on me yet but I really should get around to doing a better job. I do have a few spare HXT 4mm connectors and I'm getting reasonable at soldering them. Might pay to use them on at least the controller to motor wires.

I am keeping it a 24v ( thats fast enough for me :) ) and I don't know if the rest of my setup could handle going to 48v anyway. eg throttle, battery indicator, controller. The controller is one of the cheap chinese ones 30A and has been working fine on the old battery. Anyway I have ordered...

Leads will be relatively short. About 150mm between the battery leads and controller leads which are both 10 AWG. Probably pull around 30A peak. Some of the guys on here have done the LiPo conversion on these bikes and I'm wondering what they have used.

Got the batteries which brings me to another question. I'm going to hook them up in parallel but what gauge wire is suitable. I do have a Hobby King wiring harness but its only 14 AWG which seems a tad low . 10 AWG ? . I'm willing to attempt to make my own.
