I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

FROM CHAT GPT. You Can you explain why, when I had a lithium battery fire, which burned through the aluminum battery casing, the fire was easily and quickly extinguished with water? ChatGPT Extinguishing a lithium-ion battery fire with water can be effective in some situations, but it's...

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

Not sure what your distinction between the two is. If the lithium is contained in a closed container, then water will not be able to get to the lithium.

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

Yes it is untrue, but if the battery is encased in a heavy gage metal box, as in most automobiles, you cannot get water directly on to the burning cells. Lithium is water soluble so is quite easy to extinguish a lithium fire, if you can get water directly on to the lithium.

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

The smaller (2 module) bank caught fire because it was overcharged, do not know if it was started by an unbalanced cell, there was no BMS, both modules were on fire with melt holes on three of the four edges. The fire was easily put out with water, and luckily the only real damage was to the...

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

Read the original post, the fire was because I overcharged the battery because I used a power supply probably with the output voltage set too high, and forgot to check, which I had always done in the past.

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

Have been thinking along those lines ever since the fire.

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

Thanks Floyd, the tractor will need some wiring because I just cut the wires in order to get the batteries out. Planning on taking a break until spring, then will rebuild the traction battery using the same modules, need to do some research on just doing a center tap on two pairs of modules...

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

Apart from the fact that some of you are miss reading the original post, all the criticism is totally missing the point of the tale. The fault was mine, for several reasons, that is a given, so skip the blame game I screwed up. The point of the story is that THE FIRE WAS EASILY PUT OUT WITH WATER.

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

The last time I used it it was good, but could have been nudged or something. Definitely my error, but the point is that the fire was relatively easy to put out.

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

I was working in my shop trying to tame my CNC, when the Missus crashes in and hollers FIRE, I dashes outside and there close to the house is my Electric Garden Tractor with flames shooting about 5 ft in the air, from the rear mounted metal battery box. Told her to turn on the hose which...

    Scooters in Europe

Touring Europe and the UK, noticed that stand up two wheel scooters are very common, talking to some folks in bike shops, while looking for a sturmy archer shifter, was informed that ebikes are quite regulated, small motors, no throttles limited speed etc. This leads me to think that the...

    Newbie here.

Hey thanks for the input, am hoping to get the frame and running gear built this winter down south, then will put the motor on when we get back in spring. Any advice re controllers, the motor I have is about 2kw, & I will probably run it at 24V. I run the tractor at 24V and am very pleased with...

    Newbie here.

Even on a four wheeler with two people? If we get a 5 mile range it will be OK, and I get at least three out of my tractor. Just want to have a little fun puttering around with my lady. We are not hot shot cyclists, you guys all seem to be experts and wanting to push the envelope. We have to...

    Newbie here.

Boy you people are so far over my head. Any road, I have converted a garden tractor to electric, using an old golf cart motor - works really well, pulls like the dickens and runs all day on a charge no problems. I fitted a hand crank set of forks for the front which will lift 500lbs to 4 feet...
