4 years, and 3000+ miles later...

Hello all, have not been here in a while! It is now the 5th summer with my ebike build and it's still kicking! same Calibike 15AH 48v battery!. The top speed is now only 28mph, down from 29/30. And the range (using all throttle [no pas installed]) - until a noticable loss of umph, is...

2+ years and 2500 miles later...

And still kicking! I just got back from a little light trail exploration. And thought I'd type up a long term report. I converted my Purplish blue 26" 1994 Giant 'Rincon' Mountain bike in April of 2015. 48v 1000w Ebay wheel/controller kit and Calibike 15Ah 48v battery. Throttle only no PAS...

Charging port wire broke, attaches to BMS? Solved

Quick evening test ride: drum roll please... Success! Ride's like the day I built it. Zipped around the block at speeds too fast for a bike without a headlight light. Good thing for streetlight's. So what started as a mysteriously broken wire on the BMS, turned out to be a much needed...

Charging port wire broke, attaches to BMS? Solved

1st sign of recovery.... success.. I was standing there when the charger went into standby without a hitch, as it's always done. Now I'm letting it stay plugged in for a few extra minutes to see if the BMS kicks in for any needed balancing. So far so good. Next reassembly and a quick...

Charging port wire broke, attaches to BMS? Solved

Latest update for those watching (and a huge thank you, to those that do): I cleaned up the melted cables to the rear wheel. All 3 direct soldered now. No change in the bikes latest issue. (see above) So my next area of investigation is back to the battery. I got a confirmation from the...

Charging port wire broke, attaches to BMS? Solved

Ok 2nd problem... runs good until full throttle.... cuts-off and needs to be turned off for 30 seconds and will power back on but do the same thing. Going to check all my connections again, the rear wheel connections need to get redone...they may be the problem...I found the connectors...

Charging port wire broke, attaches to BMS? Solved

.. In this pic the white wire has been re-soldered to it's original place. The guitar pic was used to avoid melting the foam backing.

Charging port wire broke, attaches to BMS? Solved

Ok after a huge fight, requiring the batter to be completely removed from the bike...I have the wire soldered on. Here's the weird part.... It's like fate was forcing me to do what had been in the back of my mind for a while, disassemble, re-inspect-reassemble better than before. after...

    Charger bad?

Nothing is wrong, I posted that I might have found the reason why the OP's charger, and mine acted the way it did. My charger is similar and had been exhibiting the same symptoms. I was giving it some love taps to see if that was the case... I'm glad I didn't break mine.. Turns out it's been...

    Charger bad?

Actually... I noticed a correlation... when I connect the charger cables without unplugging and turning off the battery I get a healthy spark at that connection. It seems that it's the times that I get this spark, that the charger seems to go into some sort of different mode that doesn't...

Well, I've passed the 550 mark.. now closer to 600 mile's, since I added the electric conversion to my bike. That put's my fun at just over a dollar per sMile. Not bad at all, and considering the battery still seems to be rolling along as new..... Let's see if I can get down below .25 cpm...

    Charger bad?

I was just going to make a new thread. Glad I searched. My charger is doing the Exact same thing as this one. Seems to be the same model as well. Seems as if I seat and re-seat the computer style power cord into the socket on the charger it operates as normal.

That would be fun and pretty amazing but nope. '1978' - 'vair long gone by then. The name Monza and Spyder were re-used on a redesigned Vega Chassis. So it's a V8 in a Vega chassis.

...Well... I'd love to go forth being that green, but another hobby of mine, is a carry over from my teen years, that I still have... a 1978 V8 Chevy Monza Spyder. Rare fun. Opposite end of the ebike spectrum for sure! I guess my other personality likes that one, lol
