Madness. Why such slow penetration for hybrid?

OT, as it's re pure plug in EV in china, but in the background of this strangely fascinating doco: https://topdocumentaryfilms.com/bulkland/ is the pervasive use of battery powered trikes like small delivery trucks in china - i dont even recall them having number plates. Only after orders are...

    2WD (Two-Wheel Drive) FAQ

motomech, more laboriously than "in theory", i meant i have not done it, but that seemed best from past reading & considering the matter for myself. Its a v old thread and yes i saw your? late posts belatedly - it happens - boo hoo - why so upset? it seemed relevant to the posters query & you...

    2WD (Two-Wheel Drive) FAQ

PS. My biggest fear w/ incurring the wrath of the local cops, is not having a plan B to make it kosher again once I have been warned once and noted. Simply removing/swapping the front wheel for road use I could live with. To being precluded from the road seems a big/costly risk.

    2WD (Two-Wheel Drive) FAQ

I bet you'r fun at parties. :) Just saying, my longyeah axial drive mid motor (24 powered gears) is only visible to the practiced eye (unlike the battery of course). I strongly suspect a second motor would pass notice. What hasnt been mentioned afaik, is there are advantages to opting for...

Madness. Why such slow penetration for hybrid?

This is madness. Why such slow penetration for hybrid (optionally plug in) in areas where its a cost saving no brainer, like stop start utility vehicles? Instead of targeting obvious low hanging fruit, marketing and fantasyland tree huggers have hijacked EVs into some "statement" that clearly...

    Solar Energy Storage

Thing is, its often forgotten, that a stationary battery is a whole other debate to the usual ev context. Weight, & sometime space, is irrelevant. there is no need for expensive light cutting edge stuff. The tesla 18650 power wall seems stupid to me. As well as charge, why not also hunt up...

How to use a 60v battery pack on 48v motor

You put powerful arguments for a mid-drive. Why not a vehicle that fits my needs, whatever they may be, now and in the future, even if i move to denver? Its what most would expect of a car e.g. The reality is, the other flipsides of poor efficiency, are also, bigger heavier dearer batteries...

Or, do 2WD using 2 x; more conventional, less wheel stressing, hub motors, front & back.

    Ebike Weight....

It bears saying that its relevance is proportional to rider weight. my bike is ~25kg & i am 75kg. If only cars were similar proportionally? :) ~Philosophically for me, if i cant heft it, its not really a bicycle anymore. Here in sydney Oz, the metro trains are a wonderful range extender. Most...

Can a ping 48v15ah do two motors? And fullriver packs?

motomech: yep, cant see 24v winning beauty contests in USA. Here in sydney oz 250w is legal limit, only if no throttle only mode - else, 200w. largely honored in the breach, but a ~confiscated bike? is a worry. Doesnt pay to be in the cops face. Only good to 3-400w. I have a 250w 24v. its ok...

At what wattage can 1200 wh of battery give me 60 mile range

In less enlightened countries and times, cyclists hang on to a passing truck or bus up hills to improve range. :) Its worked for me a few times.

At what wattage can 1200 wh of battery give me 60 mile range

I read that, In ideal conditions, a road race cyclist lapping a race track at 25kmph uses 100w. Each extra 5 kmph needs another 100w. Mostly u r battling the wind at over ~25kph. u can extrapolate from that. 250w sounds fine for 30kph in theory. I suspect hub motors suffer here. mid drives...

Can a ping 48v15ah do two motors? And fullriver packs?

ta for sharing. Nice rig. You could cover some miles in that. I figured the thumb & twist throttle would be theway to go. The bike well illustrates a newb trap - getting a curvy jazzy frame. classic MTB is best (after structurally handicapped ladies bikes) for ideal battery siting, as u have...

Can a ping 48v15ah do two motors? And fullriver packs?

mototech I like the elegant simplicity of your 2wd approach/philosophy. Dont balance 2 batteries, balance the use of them by favoring one motor or the other during the trip to suit, with the bonus of pretty full redundancy. I would like your rig as a mid drive also (maybe a 2 speed xiongda on...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

e.g. my niche is, much as i love my ebike(s) & dislike the girth of a trike, the 50kg constant companion dog, is just too old to trot along on any decent journey now. So am looking for a used 24" adult tricycle, & shall add a 24" XD front wheel, w/ its essential low gear.

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

Glad u had a nice break & the bike was the boon i can quite believe it was. I love the term "RV dingy" - an ebike strapped to the back of RVS as a runabout once arrived at campsite. yeah, 16" (i would prefer bigger for the ride - 24"?) wheels should yield low gearing anyhow on any hub motor...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

as i said, i like mid drives (PARTLY influenced by Oz having EU rules of 2-250w max power street legal), but since XD is unfairly slagged off here, then to be the devils advocate, midS achilles heel is the drive train. ~Delicate, non redundant & fiddly. if a hub motor breaks on the road, u can...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

even 1 kw hub motor sucks for the rockies or appalachian terrain. I like mid drive too, but clearly, many prefer the simplicity and cost of hubs, & so, 2 speed beats the hell out of 1 speed. pedaling isnt as effective on mid drives also - u r stuck~ with gearing the motor likes, which may not...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

FYI, a response fr bonnie at XD re "Last I checked, u dont have a 24" wheel & hub kit? is this still so? I would consider cast alloy wheel w/ integrated hub motor. its for an adult tricycle, & they are mostly 24" is it true rolling trikes backwards damages the xd hub?" bonnie: "now we...

Hybrid lipo/18650 pack, different capacity ?

Proof of the "fundamentalness" of this thread, is the grid itself. It requires just such a hybrid of power sources to work properly - from base load to degreesof on tap variable power like hydro & gas turbine.
