    Tabless design cylindrical cells tests

Very small update in the first post (updated graph with cycle life). EVE 4680 has started a life cycle. I hope to add pictures of the disassembled EVE40PL soon.

    Tabless design cylindrical cells tests

The EVE 4680 sample cell thing has been postponed indefinitely, but recently my colleague tuned up Micro-TIG and somehow the Cu busbar on aluminium is holding up. Cu with Al is not the best combination, but it will do for tests. The nominal capacity of the EVE 4680 sample is only 22Ah out of...

    LG INR21700-M58T?

Thanks to the support of ES community i got access to the samples of serial production M58T model. In few weeks i will start cycle life test. Let's see if there's a significant difference from the M58 sample.

    LG INR21700-M58T?

I was considering starting a new topic with the clickbait "Do LIB really not suffer from the memory effect?", but I find it disrespectful to the community. The idea is based on the observation of my LIB cycle-life data, where you maybe noticed that cycling at a constant SoC range, lower than...

    LG INR21700-M58T?

First of all for clarification, the cells supplied by Nkon are described on the body as M58 (without T) even though they are listed as M58T. And secondly here is the cycle life data compared to the Vapcell F60. It can be seen that both models are suitable for practical use. Regarding the F60...

    Sodium Ion developments thread

Have some cycle life results from SIB cells from Hakadi. Unfortunately their HE samples (INR1865E-1500 model) proved to be a complete disappointment. At 90% DoD (4.05-2.00V) it lasted only ca 100 cycles, at 100% DoD (4.10-1.50V) only about 50 cycles. But it is strange because their HP samples...

Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

We've been over this before, but let's do it again. A simple example. Tesla Model S and Model 3 have roughly the same range today. TMS weighs 2068 kg (of which the 100kWh battery pack weighs approx. 480 kg) TM3 weighs 1828 kg. If we reduce the weight of the TMS battery pack by half (we need...

Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

Samsung SDI states 900 Wh/l, with a claimed 40% improvement from their LIB production. I assume Samsung is talking about the prismatic format, where the 650 Wh/l value actually corresponds to the best that is available on the market today.

Preliminary table data with 10C chart for HP version INR1860P-1300mAh. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get to the test equipment for the next few days.

    Sodium Ion developments thread

First table data here: It is for SIB HE sample. Interestingly, both DCIR test procedures showed tragic values of IR, but in fact the cells held up extremely well in terms of temperature rise during the discharge. AC temps will be added soon. And I'm looking forward to seeing the results of the...

SIB samples in 18650 format from Hakadi battery (Shenzhen Zhonghuajia Technology Co., Ltd.) arrived yesterday. Started with initial tests. So far I can say that they have announced capacity and energy and arrived in an adorable white cardboard box with pictures of green leaves. But there is a...

Cycle life tests of High Energy density cylindrical cells

I don't like this cell? :) The problem I am aware of is the lack of a reasonable online database with graphical interface, where specific cells can be selected for comparison. So it is not only about 50S but many other cells data.

Cycle life tests of High Energy density cylindrical cells

The general rule is that synthetic tests are one thing and real-life tests are another. The most difficult thing is just to accept this fact. After that, you just need to choose a standardized test and try to keep the conditions constant. The reason why 4.15-3.00V (about 90% of DoD) is that...

Cycle life tests of High Energy density cylindrical cells

Btw. info about 3000 cycles in 4.15-3.00V range was released for the first generation of 48X. Second generation 48X2 was released with an "upgraded" datasheet with just only 1500 cycles in the same range...

Cycle life tests of High Energy density cylindrical cells

In their defense F60 is still running at 100% DoD ;) it seems that it will reach 500 cycles at ca 80% SoC. I think they are doing well beyond my expectations. Personally, before I got my hands on them, I didn't much believe they would actually have such a high energy density and if they did...

Cycle life tests of High Energy density cylindrical cells

Samsung 48X was tested, you can find results here (Yellow chart) https://endless-sphere.com/sphere/attachments/he_1c_90-_cycle_life_test-capacity-png.338062/ Btw. with settings 4.15-3.00V almost all cells can do 3000 cycles. I will show more in lithium-Ion vs. sodium-Ion competition chart, which...

Cycle life tests of High Energy density cylindrical cells

A little update. Tenpower 50ME suffered a sudden death effect at 700 cycles at 100% DoD. There may be a connection to a similar result with the 40TG. Vapcell N40 recently finished 1000 cycle at 90% DoD. Graphs will be updated at some point.

    Tabless design cylindrical cells tests

small update, Molicel P30B finished 1000cycles and added table data for both Molicels, hope I will add discharge graphs soon as well. EVE40PL is still alive but not for long.

    Sodium Ion developments thread

Yes I forgot about the BYD e6, but it's a very good example to confirm my thoughts. Have you ever seen its battery pack from 2009? I only found this video where you can clearly see how huge its battery pack was! Its volume is definitely well over 500l and there is no chance to fit this into any...

Actually, they don`t. Did I mention I don't like marketing? :( I have already been asked about this Zeekr parameter and I am pretty sure they are using marketing tricks. They simply took the term CTP literally and so only included the cells and their mechanical and electrical connections in this...

    Sodium Ion developments thread

The point is that there is a very widespread phenomenon in technology, which I personally call the "obsession with the mass", which sums up the approach that by reducing weight, every problem can be solved. A typical example where this approach clashes are ground wheeled vehicles (four-wheeled...

    Sodium Ion developments thread

A few thoughts on the topic of Sodium-ion batteries (SIB). The first is from global/market perspective. It is good to acknowledge that a large number of us have a distorted view due to the fact that we consider vehicle applications as "entertaining", and despite this it is then difficult to...

    Tabless design cylindrical cells tests

One more thought. Data from EVE 4680 sample will be available later, because unfortunately Vapcell this time messed the welding process of nickel strips. They they made the schoolboy mistake when used CD welder rather than laser used on 4695 sample, where CD welded nickel has no chance to...

    Tabless design cylindrical cells tests

Update for EVE4695P, this tested sample does not deserve a "P" like performance. Parametrically it belongs to the HE category. Cyclic life is not very impressive either.
