    Converting vintage mopeds to electric

I’m not the person you’re looking for, but am in the planning stages of turning a magnum into an electric. I’ve done a lot of thinking about it, and am leaning towards the QS motors 205 3000w. Rear dropout for that motor is ~150mm and 3kw should give similar power as a good kitted build.

New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

FWIW an old co-worker of mine has this bike and loved it. I was impressed with the build quality at the price point and was eyeballing them for a while. I’ll probably end up going cargo when I +1 and return my CX bike to pedal power. Think I could get a belt long enough for a cargo bike?

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

Nice! Yes, very interested in a walk through of your wiring (or a wiring diagram). Looks like endlesscadence's diagrams from a few months ago are down (from whatever hosting source they were at).

Had also checked that. Whatever it was got reset with the flash.

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

Fixed it! Just needed to flash zeros to wipe everything out, then reflash and reconfigure the LCD.

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. Any other ideas before I just flash the LCD with zeros and reflash 0.18.0?

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

Any ideas on this? Would it be beneficial to wipe my configurations back to factory and try that? (not sure how to do that) This is my first time troubleshooting things, I remember conversations somewhere in the history of this thread on how to do that....but couldn't find anything captured in...

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

Running into an issue with 18.0 that I'm hoping is just a configuration problem that you guys can help out with. Assist is working properly from a stop, but then 3-5 seconds later it cuts out. Almost like I have boost turned on (I have boost disabled) and when boost fades out there is no power...

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

Just finally finished my install (went straight to 16.0), WOW!! I was only able to take it up the block and back due to it being midnight and below freezing, but it is a totally new bike! I still have a grin plastered on my face from the smoothness and power it now has. Absolutely love the power...

New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

I believe the code may use wheel speed as a safety check in some scenarios. I'm sure there are some uses beyond that I'm just not aware of.

New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Kapton tape - awesome! Just researched it a bit. Will be super useful not only for the heat sensor, but all kinds of things (solder protection, arduino prototyping, etc). Can't believe I didn't know about this stuff before, thanks man!

New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Stupid question I've been curious about for a while - in a lot of your photos I see you using tape. Is there a special kind of clear tape, or is that just packing tape? Also curious if the tape you said you used in the temp sensor install is some type of special heat resistant tape, or again...

New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Ah, nice! That explains why the power cable is all nicely hidden. I've been looking at the busch + muller lights for a longer term solution (phase 1 is cheap aliexpress lights). The look super nice.

New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Hey Andy, quick side question. In the photo of your lengthy (and great) response, I noticed you’re utilizing a nice headlight. It looks like the headlight wire goes up to the cockpit, but I don’t see a return wire going down. How do you have that wired in? Am i just missing the wire going back...

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

This sounds great. I'll do some thinking and drafting in my spare time and propose to the group as things come together. Looking forward to seeing the collaborative progress on this! You guys have done some amazing work on the firmware, making those features and the process to install/enable...

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

Great point. I've been posting anything related to the firmware in this thread to keep it all (wiring, parts discussion, etc) in one place, and then posting all motor specific items in the general TSDZ2 thread. To the group - what would be the most helpful way to utilize this thread vs the...

Super helpful. Thank you EC!! I think it would be valuable to (even more) clearly call out the “throttle” version in github as “only for active use of a throttle” or something like that. Even a note that the non-throttle should be default might not be a bad idea. Cheers!

Hey Andy, details can be found on the corresponding GitHub issue. https://github.com/OpenSource-EBike-firmware/TSDZ2-Smart-EBike/issues/49 The guys have done some great work tracking and documenting everything. Lots of great info there.

TSDZ2 mid drive with 860C, 850C or SW102 displays only -- Flexible OpenSource firmware (Casainho code only)

I think it would be helpful to get some clarity on this from the devs/super users. Some use cases regarding throttle/non throttle versions: 1. Can you use non-throttle version if you have an 8 pin model but do not plan on using throttle? Or 2. No matter what, if you have the 8 pin model you need...

They’re not important in general, but i wanted my prep to be very prescriptive and thought out so i just had to execute when soldering time came. That said, great point that those specifics vary and should be removed before posting to wiki. To match up with the male end of the speed sensor >...

No worries - thanks Andy! I'm going down a very similar path. VLCD5 display cable cut around the same spot. Planning on running a couple of pigtail wires (for GND and Brake wires) out of the solder bundle and add connectors to those and the end of the wires coming from the brake lever. Will...
