Kelly Controllers Configuration Program - a Definitive Translation

I understood it that the limit is permanent, that is to say the limit is active no matter what the rpm, but I see what you mean; the "high speed" is confusing.

Kelly Controllers Configuration Program - a Definitive Translation

Thanks for the positive feedback. Have just tested this and can confirm that it throws an error if it starts up with 0v when in 1-4v mode.

    Variable Regeneration Voltage Questions.

I don't know about your specific controller, but the one I'm using has onboard variable regen which requires a 0-5v brake lever (or potentiometer). The harder you press the brakes, the more regen you get.

Hall Sensor or Phase wire making my electrics burn? (With video)

I just came across this little device which looked so good I thought it was worth sharing: The Eagle Tree eLogger V4 Although it's been designed for RC airoplanes, some of the features which I thought would be really useful for my application: It's good for up to 80v and 180a and has Live...

Hall Sensor or Phase wire making my electrics burn? (With video)

Thanks Amberwolf. Unfortunately this controller doesn't provide any kind of live data via it's USB connection. Neither does it perform any kind of data logging. For interested parties, I've started writing a Definitive Guide to Programming the Kelly KBS48101X Controller. An RC wattmeter sounds...

    Anderson Technical Information Thread

A noob question: With these Anderson connectors, am i right in thinking that there is no male and female? i.e. two identical housings will plug into each other?

    Speed control with a potentiometer

Some potentiometers have a switch, you'll notably hear it clicking into the Off position when turned all the way counter clockwise. All of the ones that I have seen have 5 wires. Ground, pos, and signal as normal, plus another two wires for On/Off.

Kelly Controllers Configuration Program - a Definitive Translation

So I recently purchased a bunch of Kelly KBS101X controllers for a six wheel drive mountain climbing wheelchair which I'm building: http://mountainwheelchair.com. This is a great controller which has many programmable features, however, the instructions in the software have been badly...

Hall Sensor or Phase wire making my electrics burn? (With video)

Yes, the Kelly controller does have this functionality but I'll need to change the thermistor as the controller will only work with KTY84-130 or KTY83-122 thermistors. It has the ability to connect to an analogue ammeter (the ones with the needle). However, it uses the same pin as the...

Hall Sensor or Phase wire making my electrics burn? (With video)

I've put a clamp meter over the positive lead between the controller and battery and the largest reading I was able to get was 6 amps. Photo of burnt coils attached: I've just sent an email to MAC to request another motor. Ultimately, I don't want to risk using one that might fail halfway up...

Hall Sensor or Phase wire making my electrics burn? (With video)

Woohoo!!! I found a phase/hall combination which works! Speed in both directions looks the same to the naked eye. DAND214, as you suspected, now that I have a working phase/hall combination, it has a much slower rpm. I ran the motors in both directions for 60 seconds whilst...

Hall Sensor or Phase wire making my electrics burn? (With video)

Thanks for everybody's input, this is really helpful. Have updated the images in my original posts. The motors are 48v 500w Mac 536hf 1:5 geared motors with a 20T winding (not advertised on their website) 32 magnet 16 pair poles. According to Mac, their rated current is 10a and max current is...

Hall Sensor or Phase wire making my electrics burn? (With video)

I've thought about this since, and as it's a geared motor with a 20T winding, surely it shouldn't have burnt out just in the time it took me to make that video? It's a 48v controller and 48v motor, running off a 16s LiFePo4 battery pack, charge in the battery was 56v. Rated current for the...

Hall Sensor or Phase wire making my electrics burn? (With video)

Hi all, I just hooked up my Mac 536hf motor to the Kelly KBS48101X controller. Initally I was over the moon to see the motor start spinning, however, I have a problem... Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3fi_ggXLK8 The motor seems fine when spinning in one direction, but...

    Wiring for Multiple Controllers

I did consider using six resistors, but I figured this could cause problems; If I had 6 resistors across the contactor, then (by human error) powered it up with only one controller attached, that one controller would be able to draw 6 times the recommended current. I did try working out a...

    Wiring for Multiple Controllers

Update I think I've come up with the final wiring diagram for the 6 controllers (See below). Essentially, it's exactly the same as the one provided by the manufacturer, with the addition of a kill switch (to prevent battery discharge as per Amberwolf's suggestion, and a fuse). I figured it was...

Which Controller (edit: hub motor) for my daughter's wheelchair?

Hi all, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everybody who has shared their time and advice. My daughter's symptoms are now far more typical of ME. We've had some great days out climbing but it looks like she's still going to need this wheelchair so the project must go on. 6 Motors...

    Wiring for Multiple Controllers

As always, thanks for the informative reply Amberwolf. After spending some more time looking at the wiring diagram and taking what you said into consideration, I came up with this which eliminates the contactor and I think is far simpler than the Kelly version: To make the diagram more...

    Wiring for Multiple Controllers

Hi all, I'm, building a 6-wheel-drive vehicle using brushless ebike hub motors (20T 48v 500w 5:1 Mac - 10A continuous, 15A Max). I couldn't find a brushless controller with 6 channels, so I've bought six single motor controllers instead. The 6 controllers are Kelly KBS48101X controllers...

Which Controller (edit: hub motor) for my daughter's wheelchair?

Ye, wheels need to have a larger diameter though and would lose too much torque on those motors which are intended for smaller wheels.
