UK Source for reliable high amperage breakers?

When I said about space being limited, what I actually meant (and should have said) was access space. It's a HELL of a lot easier to reach a breaker and flip it with your arm wedged between a drawer runner and a 2x4 than it is to unscrew a cover, pull out a blown fuse, and fit a replacement...

UK Source for reliable high amperage breakers?

As per title, I've been using the breakers from Amazon (Qiorange things) rated for 300A (12V), and whilst the rating seems spot on, mechanically speaking they've proven unreliable in the extreme. Even with no terminals connected, 60-120 seconds after latching the breaker some of them just flip...

Which materials are safe to house LiFePO4 battery cells?

Alright, so I have 8 cells in a housing designed for 10 cells (about 400x300x300mm). The arrangement means there's a 50mm gap between the highest cell and the top of the housing, which makes accessing terminals difficult, and worries me a bit as the top of this needs to be strapped down tight...

    Battery Distances and Layout

Thanks for your reply. I've pulled this bit out as I think it sums up our differing thought and where I'm stuck on this. My understanding of how to set up the batteries in parallel (how it was on our boat and how I was taught to in school) is that with all positives connected sequentially (1 to...

    Battery Distances and Layout

Hi all! Bit of a conundrum I can't seem to make ground on... Due to some unfortunate geometry, I'm going to have to fit my batteries in two banks, about two metres apart. Each bank will have two 200Ah 12v batteries (4 cell LiFePo4). I'll need these to all end up in parallel, for 800Ah at 12V...

    CellLog 8S alternatives? Coulometers?

Yeah, I was figuring that separating those two functions out gave me some extra options. Now to find one that I can get delivered in a sensible timescale... I spotted that one at HobbyKing actually; seems great minus the lack of logging. I'd love to be able to tap into their XT60i thing too so...

    CellLog 8S alternatives? Coulometers?

Okay, so forgive me if I'm missing it in searching, but it seems the ubiquitous (last time I looked at eBikes) CellLog 8S is now discontinued everywhere... What are folks using to monitor individual cell voltages now? As a cheeky bonus question, I'm wondering if out there in the big wide world...

    LiFePO4 High Capacity Cell Charging

I found these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3S-to-9S-lithium-battery-balancer-which-keep-voltage-difference-within-10mV-the-best-solution-to/1950876697.html which look identical to what you've got, and look just the ticket. As a bit of a follow-up, what are the other pieces you're using...

    LiFePO4 High Capacity Cell Charging

Loving the load tester idea - that's certainly a good first step. And amazon-able too, albeit for a bit of a hike in price. The active balancer sounds interesting - can you link me to one please? I'm just getting loads of BMSs when I google. Also when you say they peak at 10A per cell, does...

    LiFePO4 High Capacity Cell Charging

"Total lack of experience" might answer your 'why not' ;) Jokes aside, any chance of a link to suitable apparatus? The one thing I'm really struggling with in this process is the incredibly wide variety of products that all nominally do the same thing, whilst clearly having real differences...

    LiFePO4 High Capacity Cell Charging

I more meant for initial charges than later balancing - they’re not currently balanced, but in order to maximise capacity I assume I should aim to get them all high rather than to undercharge (or bleed off) the higher ones?

    LiFePO4 High Capacity Cell Charging

Okay, so having done a ton of research after being pointed in the right direction in my last thread, I think I'm making progress with my battery system. In short, I've got 4 3.2v 200Ah LiFePO4 cells in series, giving me a 12v battery for off grid use, getting charged by 12V solar, a generator...

18650 Battery Management Systems for non-18650 use??

Thanks for the prod in the right direction - the Bluetooth BMS thread does help but finding anything that could be delivered in days in the UK rather than months would be good. Any suppliers I should know about, even sans Bluetooth? By upgrades do you mean mosfets for higher current etc? Can I...

18650 Battery Management Systems for non-18650 use??

Why's that, out of interest? Because the alternator should protect its output voltage anyway? It will be used for an offgrid system with generator and solar input, as well as high and low amp outputs, so protection seemed important... Am I just paranoid?

18650 Battery Management Systems for non-18650 use??

I don't really mean the shape, so much as 'a pack made of lots of small capacity cells in parallel, versus a single cell of high capacity'. I assume your response remains true here, however I can't afford to take the risk of not asking with cells that cost this much haha! Any recommendations...

18650 Battery Management Systems for non-18650 use??

Hi all, I'm hoping I'm about to get some ex-commercial 3.3v 300Ah LiFePO4 cells from an old solar connection. I'm hoping I'd be able to use them for a nominal 12V system (4S)... What I'm wondering is what on earth I do for a BMS here? Do I use a standard 18650 one? Do I need a custom one? Am I...
