    Poltergeists in my BBS02

interesting you should mention that... when the bike was taking off on it's own - i played with a few things to see what would happen. while frantically bashing the minus button to get to PAS0, i ended up holding it down and going into walk-mode - i noticed that this seemed to get priority and...

    Poltergeists in my BBS02

i'll try this tomorrow, however i'm not that optimistic that it will reproduce easily "on the bench" - as the behavior didn't kick in until 30m or so in the ride and seemed to be induced by pedaling. i also noticed sometimes when i pulled power and left it alone for 10 minutes it would behave...

    Poltergeists in my BBS02

@dogdipstick - Do you mean the pedal cadence sensor that senses if you are peddling? If that were giving a false positive it seems like in PAS0 it still should have no effect. The leaky throttle current seems most likely as it feels like applied throttle. Pulled controller apart - can’t can see...

    Poltergeists in my BBS02

Interesting theory on leakage current. Wonder if it’s a side effect of my DIY throttle fix. Can’t wait to dig into the potting again!

    Poltergeists in my BBS02

My BBS02 started acting very weird... My setup: - Luna hotrod programmed BBS02 - Luna mini display - No shift or brake sensors installed (wires cut and heat-shrink-closed) - Speed sensor installed - 28T chainring Mods to stock: - DIY hack to fix throttle-with-pedal...

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

All back together and took it for a quick spin - works flawlessly! Don't know how I rode with the factory behavior, now that I know how it *should* work. A BIG THANK YOU to the awesome pioneers of this mod!

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

Just an FYI that I had reached out to Luna tech support to see if they had any kind of a firmware fix for this issue. As of Oct 2019 here was their reply: "Yes they all have this issue. If you’re peddling you can’t use the throttle at the same time. Essentially if you’re using the throttle you...

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

Jackpot! I think I’m good. Took it apart and confirmed 4.95V at pas connector and blue throttle wire was showing 0.81V idle and 4.05V wide open. Redid the transistor circuit - this time I used the 2N5308 (different pin configs) and it’s happier. Getting 4.94V on PAS when idle and as soon...

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

Just to double-check... in the original schematic posted by @fechter "BBS02/BBSHD Pas Correction" there appears two be two transistor symbols. I'm assuming this is just a single KSP13BU as it looks like just one in everyone's actual build photos ;)

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

Hhmm. Something is not right. So across grey and black on the PAS sensor I get 2.02v on standby with pedals aligned (otherwise 7.3mV). When I apply throttle for the first 10% bite of the throttle I see the voltage start to drop slowly down to 1.8v before any action at the motor. The motor...

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

Surgery complete. What’s the best way to “bench test” the fix before sealing it up all and reinstalling? I tried it - and the throttle seems to engage quickly the same if I’m moving crank or not, but motor seems to spin at constant vs variable speed as I apply more throttle. Perhaps this is...

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

That’s a good point. I guess once’s is re-embedded in clear silicone it should be protected from movement.

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

Inspired by BotoXbz’s post I thought I also would try digging into the potting at the opposite side of the controller. The only downside is that the wires are quite taught and you can’t pull up a loop to tap into, so I kept on digging until I got to the PCB connection. I’m a bit skeptical of...

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

Thanks fechter. My bike is unexpectedly out of action for some suspension repairs - so I may as well order the proper transistor while I work on that... I have a handful of KSP13BU's on the way from mouser. I like the less-components-small-footprint design as it it :) What wire did you use...

DIY Fix for BBS02/BBSHD Pedal/Throttle Issue

So glad I found this thread. I bought a new BBS02 from Luna in June 2019 and it appears to have this symptom of jerky throttle when peddling even in PAS0. The very first post in this thread has an edit from May that suggests a "possible firmware-only fix", but as far as I can tell from reading...
