    The BMS shouldn't produce any measurable heat when you are actually operating the bike..all of the balancing (i.e. heat being generated via resistors) occurs when you are charging. Unless I'm completely wrong, which I have been before :lol:

    Please go to the page before this one and read Gary's (GGoodrum) post. He already addressed your question. Forum member AndyH runs rechargeablelithiumpower.com which sells the current version of this BMS and will offer a completed version of 4.0 when it is ready.

    What is the exact voltage that shunting ocurrs? 3.65v? So if I'm charging a 48 cell pack, it would be better to set up the charger to output 3.7 or 3.8 volts/cell to charge fully? So that would mean I would set the charger to 177.6ish instead of 175.2 (24*3.65)?

    You will most likely be able to buy a completed version (once the updated BMS is released) from rechargeablelithiumpower.com , they sell the most recent version completed from $120-$220 depending on how many cells you need to manage.

    Thanks for the advice, I'll look around for that thread. I'm actually planning on using 3 of these chargers: http://www.fmadirect.com/new_applications/10s_charger.htm Although they were developed for RC planes they can each charge 10 cells (up to 60AH each I believe) to exactly to 3.65 volts...

    I am working on my next motorcycle project which will certainly be using either thundersky or sky lithium batteries running somewhere between 72 and 84 volts (haven't decided yet). I've already figured out charging and balancing the batteries, but need a simple way to implement a low voltage...
