Why come no tadpole trikes with over seat steering?

Velomobiles often have OSS in a tadpole configuration, usually an elbows-in tiller configuration. The advantages and disadvantages are exhibited by various velomobiles, more complex mechanical design to fit a more confining the velo enclosure.

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Finally found a commercial rear rack bag large enough for the 9x6x6 inch 14lb battery! And I don't like the way it flexes the whole rear rack and 26 inch wheel. I will stick with the big metal box mounted lower on the side, attached directly to the frame.

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

It is an LiFePO4. No unexpected lighting. That's kinda why it is in a big steel box - because the LiPoly is larger than Lion

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

I received all the parts needed to apply the steering damper. I will machine an L bracket for the final connections. It will get there- really! I thought it would be nice to mount the 9x6x6 inch battery on the rack instead of an ammo box on the side, and cannot find a system under $100 US. I...

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Good idea. I will keep it in mind - if I *ever* get metal jockey wheels that fit. Perhaps I should ask IRL people at my local Bike Shop. (Gasp! IRL!) I am just fooling. The LBS has been extremely helpful every time, Laughing Dog Bicycles.

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Slowly, slowly the ant eats the coconut. A steering damper opened a whole new bucket of parts. I ordered and received a steering damper, measured to ensure it had enough stroke. Evaluated the mount, and now ordered a bracket for a 1 3/4 inch frame tube. Now I can order 8mm bolts of the needed...

Bearing inner diameter of a large idler wheel?

Yes, DIY. Nice work. I definitely could make a concentric adapter on drill press, good idea.

Bearing inner diameter of a large idler wheel?

Thank you, I did not consider the Hostel Shop! The greenspeed 15T will fit the purpose and it has an 8mm bearing, there are others at that site. I will verify with them the cogs are metal not plastic

Bearing inner diameter of a large idler wheel?

PaPaSteve, that makes sense. Where can this be obtained? What is the ID of the freewheel?

Bearing inner diameter of a large idler wheel?

I could do that. I will first try to locate idlerwheels.

Bearing inner diameter of a large idler wheel?

Thank you, T-cycle has excellent products. If a person is not DIY, their products work first time, every time. Their front and rear idlers would be about $300 for both. I hope to find and publish a more manageable DIY solution for myself and others.

Bearing inner diameter of a large idler wheel?

What is the inner bearing diameter of larger derailleur idlers? Is it 8mm or larger? I see they have a large bearings, then static reducers are on both sides to fit the derailleur. I have a recumbent and it has plastic idlers to guide the long chain below the frame. The bolt through the idlers...

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

I will look for them. Fortunately this trike does use 2 separate wheels for the drive and return. The current axle bolt is 8mm, and it has the dual purpose of tightening the boom on the trike. I have no idea of idler wheel shaft diameter.

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Good idea. The more expensive custom replacement idlers have side guards to keep the chain from flopping off. It would be possible to make sheet metal disks if that is an issue, or just a bridge over the idler.

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Ah, the problems caused by adding a strong electric motor! I was never able to pedal fast enough to get the "death wobble" . I ordered a steering damper and expect it this weekend. After the damper arrives I will dry-fit and order an attachment to the frame and appropriately sized bolts and...

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Yes, the steering is very twitchy with the electric assist at speed. What was the source of your steering damper? I just read your original post. Question answered. Thank you for the info!

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

The Blue Goose is completed! For now. Until it gets more bling or better lighting Installing the CYC Photon was simple. A recumbent trike has a super long chain line, so aligning it exactly was not an issue. Packaging and mounting the non-standard LiFePO4 battery was a pain in the butt. I...

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Those Kettwiesel deltas are marvelous! I have seen a long train of them linked together. IMO, choose the 42T chainring and see how that works. I had a 32-42-52 chain ring and 11-32 cassette, 26" driving wheel. I am not in shape and to get up hills I was using 32-32, and changed to a 20" wheel. I...

Your Creation's Before & After Pics

The Blue Goose got boosted with a CYC Photon and a 52V LiPoly battery. It's a TerraTrike Cruiser not in production, I have enjoyed it for years. Before conversion, I dropped to a 20" drive wheel because the hills were getting too steep. After conversion I could go back to the 26" wheel and...

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Ordered a few more parts from Electrifybike. They were very responsive. Then it will be on the road! 1. Main wiring harness with 4 leads, 2 for brake sensors. 2. 650mm long speed sensor extension. Most of the other standard length Photon wires were just fine.

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Near completion. I took it for a longer shake-down run to see if the battery mount would survive or tear off. It stayed on. The CYC Photon rests against the derailleur mast. The wiring really needs organization. I used spiral wrap because it is forgiving. I think it will be neater on top...

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Thank you, those are all good suggestions. ALWAYS necessary to have foot retention by any means, clipless pedals or straps. I chose straps, just my preference. I wondered about the idler, I will replace the stock plastic idler if it wears significantly, depending on my riding style. I will...

Building the Blue Goose bent trike

Pics as requested. In retrospect I agree with ccihon, a downtube battery or similar compact format would have been much easier, and I might do that in the future. For now, I have the bulky battery and I'm dealing with it. The side view shows the rather large metal box. I'm stalled thinking of...

Impressions of my very first ebike ride with everything working: HOLY SHIIII.... iii ... (doppler effect here) ... (fade) ... (coming back) ... iii...IIIITTTT ! i just gotta get everything tidied up with wire looms, fasten the battery to the frame instead of tying it onto the rear rack...

Those would be useful! I considered purchasing an (inhales) Adjustable Gland Nut Wrench Spanner for Hydraulic Cylinders (whew). The ends of hydraulic cylinders have two indents for the pins. The wrench head has a 1/2 inch hole for a ratchet handle. If CYCMotor increased the width of the...
