Hi,

I m new to this forum and I m hoping this is the place to find some answers that I m looking for. I m from NL and English is not my native language but I ll try my best! I will also try to make the topic not to long.

So I bought a Torqeedo Cruise 4 electric motor for my boat. You can buy a Torqeedo 5kWh battery for this motor which is "ready-to-go" with internal BMS, IP67 proof etc. However, the battery comes at a pretty high price (5200 euro).

So I did some research and found out that Torqeedo uses one of the 8 120Ah modules that comes with the BMW i3 car. You can buy this BMW module separately for a pretty good price but I m wondering if I will be able to get this work. As you can see in the following video the BMW module has it s own BMS system on the right side of the battery (from 20 to 36 seconds on the video). The video is from the older 60Ah battery but that doesn t matter, the new 120Ah is build the same way.

So I m wondering if I will be able to get this BMS to work in some way. Correct me if I m wrong but it won t do any "BMS-ing" when not connected to the BMW car right? So i would need to alter something to make the BMS work I think? Can someone help me on my way?

You can buy a 3rd party BMS to watch over these Cells you don't have to use the original, not to mention it's probably near impossible especially if you only plan on connecting 8 of them in series.

I've only used the JBD Bluetooth BMS since I discovered them on this forum.

Thanks,

I see this one

But I also see this is max 60a. My motor uses 83a so I got a suggestion in another topic that I need at least 100a?

Hi !

There is toms SimpBMS that can talk directly to the OEM bms on the module.

That can be worth looking into.

I have one but for use with tesla modules.

It also supports iMiev and Volt bms boards.

Bit of a price difference to the BMSs linked here but might be interesting.
