Help! Will Pay. Wheels too wide, dropout hubs too small, etc

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help me with my predicament. Note that I'm also willing to pay for the help and would find that fair since I'm baffled. I'm realizing that e-bike construction is more challenging than anticipated. :)

A bit of background... I recently had a terrible, terrible medical diagnosis and while going through the beginning of treatment and feeling awful, I hopped on my young son's scooter with him and flew back to the house... I felt happy for the first time in a while... and knew that I needed a new e-bike (smarter than the motorcylce I was also contemplating) to feel that way more often... free... happy... toughing out a bad situation with the wind blowing through my (now gone) hair.

I'd had an e-bike in the past - a very expensive one that I loved - this was maybe seven years ago and it went about 35mph. Note that I bought that as a fully-assembled, end-user bicycle.

This time I took a different route. This medical issue is a sobering reminder that my days could be numbered so I did not feel comfortable spending so much.

I did some research and purchased (1) a Micargi Rover 7-speed 26" - https://goo.gl/4rX0ow - I live on MIami Beach after all and love cruisers; (2) a supposedly 135mm 7-speed 3000w conversion kit rear while from Ebay (Chinese), and (3) a beefy battery and charger (Electric e bike 48V 15ah Lithium LifePO4 Battery 60-100Amp for 800--3000W motor).

Well the Chinese dealer was preoccupied with a child in the hospital - and that resonated so I did not give him much grief. Unfortunately, he sent me a 135mm no-geared wheel the first time around. Then, he replaced that with a 150mm 7-geared wheel. Neither wheel fits this bike, front or back.

All of the items can be returned (with some hassle)… so basically what I'm hoping for is that someone can help me find the right parts and provide assistance. I have an assembly guy who will handle assembly (unless you're a guru near Miami Beach :)) - so here's what I'm hoping someone can help me with:

• Again, to reiterate, I will pay for your help. I see tremendous value in the knowledge many of you have and I think that's fair.
• Can I keep this Micargi bicycle or should I return it and get it a new bicycle to become the foundation of this new e-bike?
• If a new bicycle, which one? Both a good one and one to accommodate your suggested e-bike transformation kit wheel are in order.
• If I should return it, what other options make sense, especially as it relates to dropout width and the like?
• I would prefer a geared bicycle - and prefer a cruiser, though that's not totally necessary - but strongly preferred. I saw someone riding that popular fatty e-bike today (forgot the name) and liked it! I think 7-speed fine but also 3-speed fine as well. Really want some gears.
• Where can I get - even if in US and more money - the right wheel to fit this new bicycle. Reminder, its 3000w and I'd like gears (3 or 7).
• What should I be aware of regarding "extras" (e.g. LED/LCD panels, brakes, disk brakes, etc.).
• What, if any advice, can be provided for the installation.

Those are the items I could use help with and am hoping someone can spare some time to help. I’m desperate. At end of treatment and I haven't been able to experience this "ride" I've been envisioning - and focusing on - since it all started.

Oh, and one more thing… while there has been some newbie naivete at play here, I should point out that I managed to conduct sufficient research to ask the right questions of the wheel supplier - but am struggling because he was not paying attention and sent me the wrong products!!!

Also… I think from what I can tell that 135mm is the way to go and 150mm is HARD to find. That's my take.

Anyway, thanks for reading and I'm really, really excited to hear from you - this is very meaningful to me and something I [strike]want[/strike] need to implement.

Regards!!!

p.s. Why "do-it-yourself" in my case? Well, a few reasons. First, I want a fast and powerful e-bike - part of the reason I limited my search to 3000w (with appropriate battery). Second, I really want it to look sleek and find that many "off-the-shelf" e-bikes look anything but sleek.

That bike has a steel frame, so you can widen the dropouts to accept a 150mm motor if you want to.

Thank you for your reply - i thought about that regarding widening the dropouts - but because it has 7-gears and all the chain, derailleur, etc. is down there, it seemed like it would not work. It's a good 2 inches more narrow than it needs to be!!!

Can it be done even with the 7-speed and all the gears/derailleur, etc.???

Very sorry to hear of your issues. If it were me, and wanted to get riding as soon as possible without all the potential issue of components not fitting or working, I would look to buy something like this https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=86464 , and ship it as soon as possible. Or, a RadRover - although that doesn't have the power you would like.

Yes. Or you could get a Huffy Fortress 3.0 mid fat tire bike for $99 and use it. It has wider dropouts. I've got a mxus 3000 on mine Works like a charm.

Are you willing to go $400 at lunacycle.com? Should be a strong motor. Luna doesn't blow much smoke when it comes to watts.

The manual says it fits 135mm drop outs.

I had to spread the frame on my old Trek 800 with an auto jack to fit my motor, but only about 10mm. Conversely, I had to squeeze the frame on my Walmart fatbike about 10mm so I could get the nuts on the 175mm axle. Both steel. I would also think 40 mm is extreme.

Hope the meds and treatments help. Good luck!
