Re: AWD Trike, motor load on hills, setup?
Efficiency and weight. Mid Drive runs most efficiently across the speed range. Trouble with a Mid Drive is you lose half the gear range by losing the front triple ring. Nice thing about a trike is with chain tubes you really don't need a front derailleur to shift, and most aftermarket Mid Drives hav...

Re: GMAC? Updated eta now 11/10!
I happen to have a MAC 10T 26" rim + 10Spd Cassette with a Phaserunner, CA3, Thun Torque Sensing Hub sitting on a shelf that needs a new owner. It has about 1000 miles on it and is in great shape. Cabling is custom length for an HPV Scorpion FS26. I paid over $1000. $500. Send me a PM if intere...

The motor will operate as a generator with proper mods with clutch and motor driver software.

Not recommended as the different BMS's may have some oscillation between weaker/stronger cells.

Re: DC to DC Solid State Relay (SSR)
Luna used to carry an SSR but I can't find it anymore. I have 3 of them. The first one blew when the 52V charger spiked > 60V once. Bought a second and they sent me two (warrantee). So at least I have a spare. Always disconnect battery ahead of SSR before charging; it seems that even very brief over...

Maximum amperage for a MAC...well I have been hitting mine with 60A battery and 180A phase for a couple years now without any problems i.e. no clutch problems and no gear problems. I really like the acceleration the MAC provides since it will accelerate faster than ANY ebike motor assuming you supp...

Re: Avid BB5 vs Avid BB7
BB7 pads squeal depends on situation like ALL discbrake pads True although with the caveat that some are far worse than others. The OE BB7's were loud enough to get the attention of earbud shod pedestrians ahead; sometimes its even amusing in a cruel sort of way. EBM pads aren't always silent but t...

Re: GMAC 10T replacing wheel bearings (How many, what type, what size?) Please help. Thanks.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something in this thread, but had a similar issue recently with hard braking where the rear wheel locked up into a skid. It seems to have sheared some teeth because the wheel was locked up but the motor was still applying torque. I've been playing with MAC's for about 7 ...

Building a Wild One 20" with BBS02 and found this thread relevant to the lessons I'm learning at the moment. Had a Shimano XT 10 spd DER Med Cage on hand. Only handles a 36T max with 39T Chain Pull. Added an 11-40 10Spd Microshift AdvantX Cassette and Risk Extender. Reaches 48T just fine with 2...

Re: Off the line torque - DD motors
Sort of but you're all missing the key points. Efficiency. At zero RPM the efficiency is zero. Its just a heater at that point. As motion begins, efficiency increases from zero. Think in terms of the frequency of shifting poles as the motor rotates. Once a more efficient frequency is reached the mot...

Re: Transporting heavy ebikes - show me your solution
For my larger e bikes, the swagman hitch mount rack was the thing. You could put the front wheel in the loop, then lift the heavy hub motor rear wheel in without lifting the whole bike. I built longtails just a bit shorter than most cargo bikes just so they would still fit, and also fit a bus bike ...

Does UL even certify batteries? Does every phone, laptop or any other device with a lithium battery sold in US have a UL certification? Ergo, UL/CE certs are optional, not required to sell by law. Insurance Companies drive the requirements as you eluded to. Yes, UL has Test Standards along with a f...

Re: Phaserunner Vs. 40A Grinfineon (10T Gmac)
I'd expect the Gmac to burn out pretty fast on a 40A Grinfineon because it's too powerful. A 1 kilowatt motor on a 1.5 kilowatt controller going uphill will get hot after 5 minutes of tarmac mountain climbing and 1 minute of rocky path climbing. The grinfineon's are very efficient and quality signa...

Re: Azub and Grin Tech. All Axle Install?
All axle can be fitted to the front but you won't like it after a while. It will take some minor fab work. Brakes will put a lot more stress on the suspension than motors will FWIW. Unsprung weight and steering feedback on the front will be annoying to say the least. MAC/GMAC motors are superb when ...
