Re: gas price thread
Huh, I didn't know about those, thanks! I had checked my state(s) laws not too long ago and it word-for-word claimed that if a rear wheel could be driven via pedals (and it was 2 wheeled) the vehicle was a bicycle of some form. You need to make sure you read all the pertinent laws. There may have b...

Re: gas price thread
You're making me see if I can bike the ~13 miles to my job as well; my issue tho, is I typically take interstate to work and it's a straight shot, while the bike trail mapper on google is quoting me an hour and a half of normal riding(!) through multiple neighborhoods. Of course that's on a common ...

I am really thinking I am done this time. I am an old man. My wife is slowly fading too. We barely make one whole person between the two of us. It would be selfish to keep riding at this point. You can see the bridge I crashed on, in this post back here. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic....

Even something as benign as ebikes are becoming more and more regulated, which prevents them from being a viable car substitute for most should the law be explicitly followed I know of only 2 cities in the US that are attempting to regulate eBikes (I don't even know if they're *legally* successful,...

I now use my bike or e-bike for essentially all in-town trips. The only exception is if I leave town I might do an in-town side trip on the way home. (In town = Fountains Hills. Small town on the outskirts of Phoenix Metro area. The e-bike makes this more practical by reducing uphill effort, speedi...

Seeing $6.67 a gallon in Monterey. Really happy I’m riding my ebike to get to, and from, work. This the reason I got an ebike, but now I’m hooked. I feel dirty when I drive. Amberwolf - thank you for such an informative and detailed reply! Now you mention it, I can’t believe I didn’t think of using a stopper flange on the outside. Basically, use a normal RHD setup, but turn it around on the shaft. So obvious in hindsight! Afzal - a freewheel on the cranks is usu...

Download the manual for the LCD5, and set the parameters for your motor. 6 speed sensor pulses per rotation, 100 magnet poles per rotation, 26" wheel, etc. Thanks! I set p1 = 100 and p2 =6 it seems good now, topping out at about 30kmph which seems about right Cool. You can check accuracy with ...

Re: See a lot of inexpensive brushless hub motors nowadays (hallomotor etc) are these any good?
Sorry for not answering. I've been off most forums and social media. FWIW, there was a simple integrated connector. Probably not the one you wanted. But it was a pretty easy one connector affair. The difficulty in removing the rear wheel has more to do with the torque arms and rack on my bike than a...

Impressive filament for a hobbiest looking for strength. Pretty darn pricey though. Sure. But at 2-3 times the price of ordinary PLA, it isn't exactly exotic. And it is only about 50% more expensive than the Carbon Fiber PETG that was initially used. The problem with these things is the cost of exp...

Here's a better video with testing of Polymaker's Polymide CoPA filament. I get the feeling that Stefan and Justin would get along with each other famously.

I'd make sure that the hygroscopic nature of nylon doesn't bite you when using it on a boat. I'm sure the issue varies depending on the particular nylon blend. Just make sure you investigate/test before going all in. But yeah - nylon is tough so might be good. The big issue with PC is that it tends ...

If you google 9c hub motor and click images you get a bunch of images of motors that look just like mine. This appears to be the same motor sold by many ebay sellers. In theory I should be able to contact any vendor that sells this motor and ask to purchase a replacement cover. That is you best bet...

Neat idea, but severely limited by many city’s preventing their use on public areas, sidewalks, or roads. But the principle (and name) is still used on many of the smaller “balance board” type scooters. Perhaps in some areas. But what I saw was the opposite. The Segway was often given privilege ove...

If you take a serious attitude that it's a mobility device and have an even remotely legitimate mobility-related complaint probably up to and maybe including "I can't walk 60 miles in 2 hours" you should be OK with the law. In fact cop brains will mostly think "dumb ass bicyclist, no...

Oof, some of these comments... OP, you need to either talk to a judge or a disability lawyer than an internet forum. To them, weight and size will need to be considered than just top speed- you are laying in the picture, and there's tons of elevators I know you can't go into with it. Look at it as ...

It's a just a ticket. A violation of some obscure regulation or even just some rule and therefore not a violation. Be careful. You need to know and understand the local laws. In AZ you might find yourself facing pretty big fines for driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle. That could be far wors...

You simply are not going to see the garbage that abounds in the bike lane. And you are going to get flats. When you spoke about bad eyes, I just thought you meant reading glasses. I'm assuming you still see a person, but slower, if this person steps in your path you can do something about it. At 30...

This had been done some 10 years ago by an ES member who had built a velomobile. Still, if pedal input is important, better make it efficient. Every energy conversion does result in a loss. You may be referring to this design: http://www.electrom.ca/ But the choice to have a dynamo drive was certai...

Hey all. I have built a custom vehicle that doesn't really fit into one legal category. I'm looking for help finding the laws regarding this. It is a pure electric full suspension vehicle with a perm 132. It is very fast but we've installed a speed dial so we can dial the power back. I think this w...

because they make less money on them. In a way, yes. Developers choose profit margins for all their homes. But since few people want small homes compared to large homes, they can't sell very many and therefore don't make as much money on them. Right. Put another way, they build larger homes because...
