Interesting that the battery got so (relatively) hot.
Did you happen to measure the motor ?

In those temps you could certainly wind the juice up!
Conversely, it was 40 degrees here last week and my controller (not a stealth but handles similar power) that normally only gets mildly warm got so hot I couldn't touch it, and that was taking it fairly easy.

Midweek suits me the best. All I need is a couple of days notice ;)

Prob a combination of internal resistance, thermal mass (they were sitting at +18) and wind shield.

Interesting ride today.

I have 2 hub motor powered bikes, the Bomber of cause, and a cheap dual suspension mountain bike with a 408, Lyen 12 FET, and 6 x 6S 5000mah Lipos in a 75V 18S 2P config.

Took a mate out for a ride with him on the Bomber and me on the converted MTB. Travelled 27km at a reasonable pace staying within a few metres of each other for the entire ride.

The Bomber used 520 W/hrs for the ride. Surprisingly, the converted MTB which was some 20kg lighter, used 540 W/hrs for the ride. Not quite sure what to conclude from that but one thing is for sure, it shows the big bike is still reasonably efficient.

That is interesting

I run the BMC geared motors and the X5 I find the X5 to be a little bit more efficient too? on paper it shouldn't be but it is :?
I would love a bomber!! my lotto dream is a big house in the country with a purpose built track out the back and a stable full of e bikes and e motorbikes   I can dream cant I? ha ha.

Love to see some videos of your rides Kepler :)

My Bomber is on order, should be shipped end of march. I may have an Optibike up for sale soon or not....time will tell. Lets hope it can pass for a normal bike in NYC....lol

If I order a 2nd battery for long trips would it be possible to carry it on a rack?

Does any one know the weight of a new factory battery?

Thanks

Kickstand

Post by Dlogic » Mar 01 2011 1:09pm

Hey Paul,

i´m in the process of mounting a kick stand on my bomber. I´ve just ordered the necessary components. Since my bomber is used mainly to commute i always ran into the problem that the stationary bike stands, that we have around the city, are not wide enough for it´s tires. So instead of looking around for a light post, fence, etc... i´ve decided to build a stand in my machine shop. Hopefully i´ve got everything ready in a week or two. I´ll post some pics of course then. :-)

Dont know the exact weight but I would estimate the battery is around 12kg (26 lb) Need a decent rack for that. The Bomber really doesn't lend itself for the attachment of a rack anyway. Also its not quite a swap a go install. Not hard but not something you would normally do on the side of the road.

Make sure you post some pictures. Would be a good addition for people using the Bomber as a commuter.

Bike color scheme

Post by Jetman » Mar 02 2011 4:16pm

Hello All,

I need to select my color scheme. For some reason, I can't look at all the pictures earlier in the thread and there is a dirth of painted stealth pictures online.

Question for you all:
- Is anyone unhappy with how the bike looks after a particular color scheme?
- What are new owners getting?

I guess I want it to be subdued/understated so as to not attract attention in and of itself, but I also want it to look cool. My initial plan was to paint it similar to F-15E Strike Eagles, a dark grey color. Now I'm thinking that might be too subdued/boring. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jetman

In the USA I'm told you can get the bike in black or in white....that's it here.

Probably nothing new to the pro´s here, but i thought that i´d post it anyways.

After 1780 exciting kilometers with the bomber it was time to realign the rear wheel. For perfect results you normally do this with the bare rim. Well, i was a bit lazy. The weather was perfect and so why spend more time then really necessary in the basement?

The rear wheel was placed on a simple wooden stand so it could rotate freely. Now i grabbed myself a dial indicator and an adjustable magnetic stand. The whole thing was attatched via magnet to one side of the swing arm. The really cool thing about that dial is that, when turning the spokes torque nut, you immediately see the direction and amount the wheel is displaced. So yes, by trying to get the most out of this setup, i managed to achive a ridiculous accuracy of 0,08 mm. :-)

The hight displacement can´t be controlled by this method. But if you don´t overtighten some spokes too much this shouldn´t be an issue. It´s essential to keep the wheel centered. I measured that to begin with and did the rest with the dial indicator.

That's awesome Dlogic! Using the swingarm as a truing stand :D And the Stealth swingarms are even more sturdy then my Park Tools pro truing stand

Before you started truing, how was the wheel alignment? The Bomber uses such strong spokes and rim, I bet it was in pretty good shape.

Dlogic,
Lazy as in smart as hell! Great idea, was it a maintenance check since your bike's relatively new, or did those 10ga spokes loosen up a bit?
How do you like the 8 pot brakes...do they feel strong? Make any noise?

You've selected the best options w/ the WB's & 8 pots, that 2011 frame looks bad-ass too! Mine will arrive in a month, same as yours except in Duplex Metropolis Storm Gray. (Though yours in black looks awesome w/ the gold/bronze parts!)

Thx,
Phil from Chicago

Thanks for the compliments guys. :-)

The wheel was only disaligned very moderatley. To be exact we´re talking about 0,47 mm. No big deal, but i like things to be as close as possible to perfection. This bike deserves dedication.

With the wheels perfect again and the front and rear lined up, she drives like on rails. I drove down hill just today pedaling really hard. At 83 Km/h i let go of the handelbars. No nervous movement of the front wheel could be noticed. Even when i pushed the handelbar a bit to the side, the bike immediatley went back on it´s course. Now that gives me that extra secure feel. I check the lineup of the wheels sporadically. I´ve noticed that if the´re not inline, then the bike can´t be driven without your hands on the bars.

I got my stand today. It has to be modified from the ground up. Also an angular aluminium adaptor plate will be milled in my machine shop. I´ll post some pictures when i get things going.

I had a MX stand modified for my Fighter and it turned out reasonably well. I'll take a photo tonight and post it up.

Welcome Zed. Good to have another local onboard. What side of town are you on? Easy to clock up the k's on this thing isnt it. :) I try and leave the car home as much as I can these days.

I will probably clock up about 60km on mine today. Commuting to the office then dropping down at the Stealth factory after lunch for a quick visit.

Here is the MX stand I mentioned:

The top originally looked like a big "H" shape and was cut down so it does not interfere with turning the cranks.

If I need extra stability, when removing the rear wheel for example, clamp the swingarm to the stand.

The homemade camera mount wasn't strong enough :) the camera hit the dirt so hard that the SD card came right out, still good but lost a segment with some dude on a DH bike making a full of himself.. damn.
