Re: 2002 Harley Davidson Softail Electric
Question: Since the engine in such frames is normally a stressed member of the frame, do you intend to add some tubing from the lower frame to the upper frame where the engine used to mount, to prevent the possibility that the frame could fail and fold up while riding, under the wrong kind and amount of stress?
I admit the look without this is unique and probably eyecatching to the average person, but I would be concerned that the frames are being stressed in ways they were not designed for.

But you modified it in such a manner that the manufacturer did not intend. You made a triangle frame into a backbone frame without beefing up the backbone. I made an easy picture for you; the yellow lines are crucial to strength. I’m sure it will appear to be fine until it breaks. That’s the point.

Re: 2002 Harley Davidson Softail Electric
Wee,
I would agree that the frame will break; my guess is that the break will happen under the seat. You may not see any problem until the metal fails. Static loading means nothing here. Shock loads (potholes) will be the bike-frame killer. Almost certainly, when the frame fails, it will be a full-tilt disaster at road speed. With no front end (when the frame breaks), battery damage seems very likely, too. The image posted above (with lines added) tells you what is needed.
Any bike shop that can build a bike frame can do what is needed for you; I would take their advice, in your position. What you have now looks really scary.

Shhh, I wanna see the video of the 300lb guy stuck in the bike when it folds in half after hitting a pothole.
