Excellent review of eBike law

Post by onemorejoltwarden » Dec 13 2021 8:05am

Laidbackrider had interview with Steve Hansen
HPV law in general on the conundrums of law and coverage issues
It was a good find
Worth the time
ebikes , foldies cumbies, and Velos have issues
I have two bikes that had recalls under CPSC. This is real.

Good review of both theory and realities.

A car hits a man on an ebike every 10 minutes. We must find him, and get him off the street.

It's interesting that a legal ebike has to cut off power at 20 mph but a car has no restriction on its power over the legal speed limit

Cars don't drive on Multi-Use Pathways.

NEVs have limitations like that, which is what makes them NEVs and not automobiles. Electric bicycles have limitations that distinguish them from motorcycles.

If you want an electric motorcycle, have an electric motorcycle. Don't pretend it's a bicycle.

The heavier the vehicle, the more restricted it should be. Simple logic that would save a lot of pain, dirt, space, cost...
Make it fool-proof, and I will make a better fool.
