Re: 2019 16" moped/scooter tire pop-off: which is the most puncture proof?

Thanks for this thread Nep, it is really helpful. It sounds pedestrian, but flat tires on ebikes have been a serious issue for me. After riding motorcycles for more than 100k miles, and only getting a single rear flat, I couldn't understand why bicycle tires are so delicate. Your photo of the hookwo...

Re: New Nissan Leaf.. 50kw more power and 62kwhr battery

Very exciting to have more options here. I fear that the 1st gen leaf actually left people with a unfavorable opinion on EV cars. 23kwh is way to small of a pack, plus no thermal management.

It also begs the question: Has the thermal management system been upgraded?

You seriously never cease to amaze me with your unyielding dedication to the craft Justin! 50% increase is significant! I love these smaller geared motors these days, and I've been having a great time pushing the limits. I'll definitely be adding some ATF!

Re: Around the world on a solar ebike

I plan to shoot some video along the way but my plan is to edit it down to one documentary to be posted when it's over. For regular updates from the road, I figure I'll keep the more technical discussion going here and post photos and anecdotes for a more general audience on Instagram. Sounds aweso...

I'm changing them all back to unlisted for the benefit of ES folks. Please try to forgive my terrible monologues to the camera, it's pretty bad. Keep in mind these were mostly produced while on the road and somewhat under duress :D Hopefully those videos will fuel your excitement for your own trip ...

Thanks! I guess I should make the video blogs public again... Were you able to view them? I think I took them down a while ago because of mean comments and they are a little embarrassing :D

I'll have to check that out!

Just found this thread, and I am very much looking forward to following your journey for the next few years!

One technical question: How did you generate the video above, with the human/solar/ etc input measurements?

Thanks!

Re: Opportunity Charging in the UK/Belgium/Holland

Trip complete and successful. We ended up with about 750 miles total. Pretty mild compared to my 4400 miles in the same amount of time 4 years ago, but wtf, I am old... Anyway it was a fantastic time and charging wasn't really an issue considering the mileage that was traversed each day, and most da...

Re: Opportunity Charging in the UK/Belgium/Holland

Hi Troy I followed your 4400 mile US cross-country trip in 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed the regular vlog. I felt inspired to do something similar within the UK, but that plan was scuppered when the young'uns came along shortly after. When I looked into the viability of outdoors guerilla charging wit...

Re: Opportunity Charging in the UK/Belgium/Holland

When I plan out my route, I just go to Google Maps and go to Street View and see what you can see. Gas Stations with outlets is an obvious choice Grocery Stores Corner Stores Hey here is a good one, for countries with snow and winter, parking lots with stall outlets. tWhat I think you should do is ...

Re: Opportunity Charging in the UK/Belgium/Holland

Yeha there isn't a whole lot of outdoor exposed outlet ls like in the US, but that will only make it more fun.

I had a 5kwh bike battery in 2009, so I'm aware of how to make a large battery... It's just not always necessary.

Re: Bike prices..... WTF?

What you're describing is a bit more like an $80k Bimota, rather than a 16k BMW. A decent road bike costs around $1500 brand new. These bikes do exist but they use technology which is far beyond the point of diminishing returns.

Re: Opportunity Charging in the UK/Belgium/Holland

Just added the "nextcharge" and "Chargemap" apps to my phone. It seems that particularly with the chargemap app, once the appropriate filters are selected, it does a pretty good job showing available outlets.

Re: Opportunity Charging in the UK/Belgium/Holland

This is not an easily-googlable problem. Since we need ordinary outlets and not car charging stations it's a bit more difficult. I should mention that using Zap-Map and open-Charge-Map I have been able to find a few. But they're pretty few and far between. I'm really looking for general advice for t...

Opportunity Charging in the UK/Belgium/Holland

Next week my wife and I are heading to Glasgow to start a month-long ebike journey throughout the UK. Though I have had great success opportunity charging throughout the US (see my 2014 trip), I suspect that this will be considerably more difficult in the UK and Europe. We'll be riding two of my Max...

Do these have UN 38.3? Are you able to ship in the US?

It looks like quite a nice setup.
