Re: Around the world on a solar ebike

What do you consider the maximum width for solar panels on a trailer? Perhaps the same width as the handlebars?

Where did you learn how to set up the BMS for lithium batteries? Did you design the circuitry yourself?

Facial burns score big points, more than hand burns. Will the scar be permanent? That would be badass.

Do you know how they make the caps? Are there layers of plastic and foil?

Re: Peugeot - E-Speriment!!!

Bouncing around on the back of the bike should keep the connections moving and digging through the oxide.

An option would be to get some copper refrigerator tubing and hammer it flat.

How long does it take to charge up?
How far will it go on a charge?

Hmm, will not work as a dc motor to start the gas motor.

Re: Series Hybrid Weed Eater Powered WE BD48

It seems the chart is wrong and it should produce a maximum of somewhere between 20 and 50 amps.

20 amps at 50V would work fine for my bike at 1000W.

Re: Series Hybrid Weed Eater Powered WE BD48

Those are some amazing motors. One problem with going to a car type alternator is that it cannot be used as a motor to start the gas motor (I think this is correct). I will have to look at those RC motors, the power output is right and the price is right. The rpms are a challenge but with a geared s...

Re: Series Hybrid Weed Eater Powered WE BD48

I went for a ride again tonight. The generator system works fine, as originally expected it is a range extender. 150% range extension is pretty good. However after building it I realize what I really want is a true hybrid that is not limited to range. It has a number of weaknesses that could be upgr...

Re: Series Hybrid Weed Eater Powered WE BD48

The system I built was put together cheaply to learn about how a hybrid system works. For real life use, make sure that the dc permanent magnet motor/generator has an amp rating that will power your hubmotor at a reasonable speed. Also, make sure that the dc motor provides an adequate voltage level ...

Re: Series Hybrid Weed Eater Powered WE BD48

I made a simple throttle control. When running with no batteries, the generator puts out about 5a at a fast idle and while trying to accelerate. The motor rpm slows down when load is added. It barely moves the bike along at a walk speed or maybe a little faster. When the throttle is turned, the moto...

Re: Series Hybrid Weed Eater Powered WE BD48

Under battery plus generator, it runs between 2 and 3 amps, hanging around 2.8a generally at speed and WOT.

Under generator only, full load from hubmotor, between 4 and 5a.

Since the dc motor is rated at 5a, there may not be any more to be gained, even at higher throttle.

Re: Series Hybrid Weed Eater Powered WE BD48

I could probably set up the multimeter to do that. Right now it has a powerpole on it, would take a little rewiring.

Re: Observed Voltage While Accelerating

I just went for a ride on battery power only, with the hybrid generator not connected in the system, and did not have the voltage swings. So it appears to be related to the generator system. Coils in dc motor and PWM is a likely candidate.

Observed Voltage While Accelerating

My bike is powered by a brushed WE BD36 hubmotor with a 48V battery pack. There is a voltmeter (el cheapo multimeter) with probes on the plus and minus poles of the battery pack. At a stopped position, no throttle, fresh pack, the voltage reads about 51V. When I accelerate I observe the multimeter r...

Re: Series Hybrid Weed Eater Powered WE BD48

The dc permanent magnet motor was about $30 delivered from ebay. A couple of bucks worth of fasteners. Weed Eater was thrown out by my neighbor, I picked it off the curb on trash day. I bought a fuel filter and fuel line, by the time I got the right size and length, probably a total of $10. Angle al...
