Heinzmann PMS126 motors, ACD4805 motor controller

Moving on. I have 5 of these motors and controllers. I've run them successfully in the past, but have encountered a hitch in the gitalong, and only one motor will run. The rest sit there and growl. In the best of all worlds, someone will show up back door here in StAugustine FL and take the whole co...

Re: looking for ideal base for electric car conversion

I'd forgotten: The Benz 250e is closely allied with Tesla, and thus probably carries a battery bank of 18650-type batteries. These don't inspire confidence in me, there's just too many of them, too many connections, too mind boggling....

Re: looking for ideal base for electric car conversion

I did the search here, found no entries on MB 250e. It's the Benz all-electric hatchback. Used off-lease for less than $25k. AND it desperately needs a conversion: equipped only with a slow charger, single phase. Surely some wizard here could come up with a rapid-charge conversion that would make th...

Re: Improving a trolling motor

Do trolling motors have ball bearing shafts? That's a basic question. I know the last trolling motor I took apart had only a single ball bearing on the front end. This absorbed the thrust, and it served as the bearing, sitting in a round recess of the commutator shaft. Pretty basic, cost-effective, ...

VERY neat bike, fox. Your second post told me it was in FL and all the pertinent details. Pricetag seems reasonable enough. I'm sunk in electric boat projects right now or I'd be giving you a call.... Best of luck!

Re: Catamaran run-about, outboard conversion

Torqeedo outboards are pricey, but effective. The first three or four finishers in the Wye Island Electric boat marathon (25 miles!) for the past two years have been with Torqeedos. Here's the opener; check the Dec edition PropTalk for standings. http://www.proptalk.com/electric-boat-2015/ I was ver...

Excellent, inspirational! You put in as much time posting, probably, as you did building! Wonderful attention to detail on both counts. Thank you!!!

Re: Battery a Fire Hazard only when Charging and Discharging

Makita-lookalikes BEWARE: one went into my bonafide Makita charger, next thing I knew there was popping then banging and finally fire shooting out the battery on the charger, and 18650 shells propelled out of the battery. Yes the fire extinguisher was handy. Lots of smoke, fire. These were 3amp batt...

Re: Dynomometer from Harbor Freight?

I have six pmac motors with various inputs and numbers on the labels. In our real world, I've no idea what powers they might be able to produce. And no idea what fine tuning might produce any changes. So this Harbor Freight generator seemed like a worthwhile try. And once coupled up with a motor, I ...

Dynomometer from Harbor Freight?

Harbor Freight offers this 10000peak watts brushless generator. http://www.harborfreight.com/10000-watts-max-7200-watts-rated-belt-driven-generator-head-45416.html Is this something that could practically give hp output readings on some of the larger motors? What would you use as a load? The generat...

Re the Makita batteries. There's a thread dealing with "docks" that are pretty complete units to help mount/tap the LXT battery. AND, Makita has a more basic one, they label it a "terminal"

Re: Pms 126 motor and acd 4805 controller

Wires 1 and 2 and 3 go to U and V and W respectively. You have a Danaher controller , the ACD4805. Understand that it is going to output about 2kW to the motor. Zapi controllers have taken over; evs-inmotion.com deals with new controllers. Go to the Heinzmann website and dig in their downloads and y...

Re: Stainless vs aluminum surrounding motor can

Try dropping a magnet down an aluminum tube. WEIRED slowdown. So the suggestion to run the motor in and out of the chamber seems a good one: note the readings, performances, etc.

Electric boat marathon (race)

This seems the right place to alert electric watercrafters of a 25 mile electric boat race on the Chesapeake this Fall. The Wye river on the Eastern Shore is the racecourse. Mark your calendars for October 2. Rules of the race: http://www.electricboats.org/2010-Wye-Island.html How it went last year:...

Re: Recharging Lithium Titanate cells from 0.7v: Safe?

I'm pretty sure I had the battery fully assembled and the systems allowed me to charge through the gold female terminals. BUT!!! then when I asked for emf from the discharge terminals, there was nothing there. All KINDS of failsafes, for one reason or another. Isolating the cells from the failsafes ...

Re: Recharging Lithium Titanate cells from 0.7v: Safe?

I just don't have the technical knowhow. The battery comes with two separate charging points, as well as the third discharge terminals. No way would the included charger cooperate even after I'd nursed 10 cells up to 2.4 volts. Yes, a BMS would be great. If you're able to make it work, 3 cheers, and...

Adopting Power Tool Batteries to Our Broader Uses

Home Despot today has 4Ah 18volt replacements 2 for $100. I can see the time when your bike carrier has three or four plug-in receptacles for a Makita or DeWalt or whomever lithium batteries. You wheel out your electric bike, grab a battery from your string trimmer, another from the recip saw, a thi...
