Re: Any durable half-twist throttle recommendations?

Does anyone else think that the trigger throttle posted by HK12K appears kind of fragile? It looks to me like it would tuck up sheltered underneath the brake lever. That doesn't make it rugged, but it does limit the need for it to be rugged. I have seen the paddles break off Wuxing 130X throttles b...

The old rim v-brakes felt really marginal as speeds climbed to about 40 mph... Do your old rim brakes feature old hard pads and old corroded cables? Maybe start with fresh Kool Stop salmon pads and die drawn stainless steel cables in new housings before you call your brakes marginal. V-brakes set u...

Re: Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

"Rust" battery for grid storage. Interesting, low cost potential solution. https://formenergy.com/technology/battery-technology/ At less than 65% charge efficiency, they would have to be very cheap, and so would the electricity used to charge them. Maybe a useful complement to wind power?...

So if I buy new controller, throttle, battery, and compatible lcd display do you think I could get back PAS function?
If the controller supports PAS, then yes. You may have to reconcile the controller's PAS plug with an incompatible plug on your bike.

Re: Am I hosed? (Build question)

If I were in your situation, I'd make a conformal spacer to go between the downtube and the motor body. Like some epoxy putty in a small zipper bag, squished between the parts while the resin sets. That's better than the point contact you get from a typical installation anyway. Don't use a rubbery m...

The other thing I have never understood is the logic of having the seat raised up to elbow height or beyond. It's not seat height off the ground that matters; it's seat height off the pedal. The higher the bottom bracket, the shorter the cranks-- the higher the seat must be to get correct leg exten...

Re: New charger but..

81 - 83V termination is good for longevity, lower end better, really not sacrificing any significant capacity Agreed. But if you go that way, you might never get the balancing function of a cheap BMS to engage. No big deal, but it means having to inspect the pack every so often. 4.05V/cell is what ...

Re: New charger but..

Have you left it on the charger to see if the voltage floats higher?

If it doesn't, there's probably a trim pot inside the charger that you can use to adjust the open circuit voltage. I've done this to turn down cheap 48V chargers so they don't go all the way to 54.6V.

That chainline looks horrible. If you don't need the longer spindle to keep the chain from rubbing the tire, use a shorter one. Heavy as you are, you should be on BMX cranks to prevent hurting yourself. I recommend Profile Racing cranks because they offer lots of crank lengths and several different ...

Careful you don't get too enthusiastic about the human effort. Your TSDZ2 crank is likely to snap off at an inopportune moment.

Why don't you pedal a pneumatic pump to pressurize a tank, then use an air motor to propel your bike? That would at least give your bike the opportunity to produce the occasional fart sound.

Most square taper spindles are hard enough that they won't bend like yours did. They snap off. (Ask me how I got my fancy gold teeth.)

You're now on the receiving end of a nonstandard BB standard. This is why we can't have nice things.

Those motors are not too difficult to open up for inspection. If you have a look inside, you'll see and smell right away if you've overheated it.

Are you driving the motor above its rating?

Enviolo is another internally geared hub that can accept BBS02 power without problems. If I were in your situation, and I already owned the BBS02, I'd go for an 8-speed cassette hub so the sprockets would be resistant to bending and consumables as cheap as possible. In a flat landscape, 11-32 or 11-...
