Re: Raised Bed Gardening - Cement Blocks!

Wow, this is impressive work. My wife manages several raised bed gardens for low-income housing communities. She formally ran the medicinal herb garden and has been the greenhouse manager (along with 1000 other jobs) at our local botanical gardens. Everything she does is volunteer work and I swear s...

Re: Potting Batteries, Thoughts and Experiments

Justin your issue with cutting Kevlar with scissors is oddly enough, because they are sharp and have a smooth edge. You can make awesome Kevlar shears with cheap scissors by lightly pressing both the cutting edges into a disc sander or grinder as of you were trying to blunt the edge. This creates th...

Re: E-Big Dummy Bobber-100V/HT3525

Just love that EV grin! Low on the 3-spd switch is 25mph(40kph), Med is 35mph(56kph), and High is 42mph(67 kph)! Nice and torquey too! I don't know the amp draw, my CA was not reading it. I have the ESC programmed for 35-40 amps. Gonna have to get it worked out so I will know what is actually going ...

Re: E-Big Dummy Bobber-100V/HT3525

I just want to put this here as proof that I actually did get this together before I died. Not finished up, but wired up enough that I could test it on the bench today, but have not been on the road yet. More later, hopefully not two years later.

Re: Engagement rings

Hi, I own a jewelry store and will give you my two cent. First, the "timeless" tradition of diamond rings is actually a very new thing. It was a concept invented to sell diamonds. The two months salary thing is also a load of crap. It was a way to make you feel guilty for not spending enough. Also b...

Re: E-Big Dummy- E-S edition (was Kona Hoss / Xtracycle)

Seriously?

I go to load batteries in my bags and four of them are puffed and 0 volts. New batteries, nothing miswired as they were not connected at the power leads, only immediate suspect is the LVC balance boards (also new).

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUdge.

Finally finished the little frame parts to hold the battery bags. I also found some black 1" plastic caps at Lowe's to plug the rear xtracycle holes.

All painted with bags. The steel rod goes through two webbing loops on the back of the bags.

1.5" right angle brackets from Lowe's. The outside is shaped to fit. The existing holes on one side are a perfect fit, the other side needs a bit of filing. Epoxy rattlecan paint.

Xtracycle DIY Footsies

I got the Kickback stand and I ordered a set of the LT Footsies because, well...I thought they might be better than my homemade ones. The Kickback is 100% worth it. The LT Footsies are great as well, but I like mine mo' betta. 8)

Thanks JKB, one of my best friends from college lives near you, that's a nice part of NC. I'm in Wilson. I am waiting on a few parts. I ended up going with LowePro camera bags that will mount on the rear integrated footrests. Each side holds 2x 6s15ah and parallel boards. I made some custom footboar...

Where were you when you realized things were on fire? My wife heard a crackling sound in the garage and checked and saw the fire in the garage. There are no smoke detectors in the garage. After reading this far along in the thread and watching folks argue battery chemistry and crappy Chinese electr...

Re: E-Big Dummy- E-S edition (was Kona Hoss / Xtracycle)

So the most interesting thing about this project is it's ability to take a long f'ing time to get itself done. A quick check on the date since the last post.....OVER THREE YEARS AGO  So the story thus far: I did build an awesome CNC foam cutter from scratch and built some R/C stuff with it an...

Total piece of cake to do and under $20 for both. you can get the Tourney for under $5 I have also swapped the right-hand Gripshift on the left side. It works OK too, unless you need...

Are they not accepting Paypal anymore then? I think they do (at least the website says they do.) They probably would have if I had pushed it, but I think they tack on a fee to cover their own charges if you pay that way. It doesn't seem like much per transaction, but at the end of the year.... :sho...

I was out for a ride and saw a lady ahead of me on her beach cruiser just out for a ride. She was just beginning to go up a short but steep hill on the road ahead of me. I was only doing about 20 mph, caught up to her and passed by silently. She couldn't have seen my grin because I never turned arou...

screw the tug motor, put a hub motor in the front wheel of the airplane. then you'll have steering via nose/tail wheel, powered/charged via airplane battery and no remote system hassles. xlyte 5305 or 5306 on low voltage or maybe an e-scooter hub motor. plus it works everywhere, not just the home fi...

Re: LASER WELDING aluminum to copper battery tab

I just happen to own a laser welder and was wondering this very thing. Lasers have a lot of advantages, one of the main advantages for ebikes is that you can make a solderless connection. The laser is intense enough to make a fusion weld of the material, so there is a continuous connection with no v...
