Re: Wayne’s Dengfu Carbon Fibre FS 27.5” with Bafang M600 (throttle also)

Yes the scale seems off. I noticed that too but wasn't too worried (I'm more of a big picture guy). This is essentially a re-badged Exess controller and from what I've read it delivers a much smoother experience with no lag (which has been a complaint I've seen from more than a few Ultra owners). I ...

Re: Bafang ultra max 2.2kw EXCESS controller

The cool thing about WW is they are built with open platform philosophy to make it easier to upgrade: https://wattwagons.com/pages/commuter_companion For example, if you bought an ultra with the old controller you will be able to upgrade to the new controller at minimal cost. They are giving priorit...

Re: Programming the Bafang Ultra 1000W

Interesting that they bleed it in from 0 to 25km/h. That actually makes sense because you probably want more refinement as you're building up speed. Once you're up to 15+ mph you probably don't need the torque sensing to be more or less responsive at 20 mph or 25 mph.

Re: Wayne’s Dengfu Carbon Fibre FS 27.5” with Bafang M600 (throttle also)

My brain isn’t working today: what does this mean? Ludi mode ruins torque PAS? No, just that doubling the power might magnify any shortcomings in terms of refinement. I'm guessing Luna tuned the torque sensing on ludi to blend in the extra juice so it's not simply a doubling of power. As far as eur...

Re: Wayne’s Dengfu Carbon Fibre FS 27.5” with Bafang M600 (throttle also)

Isn't power just volts x amps? Not sure if the euro spec controllers feed more amps? My understanding is Luna is doubling the current with the ludi controller. Seems like it would have similar power as doubling the voltage. X1 users seem underwhelmed with ludi since the gearing is optimized for off ...

36 volts OUCH I would not ride that thing to a dog fight. I think how that bike is priced is all its worth I used to drink the kool aid that euro spec motors didn't have adequate power. That BH has a brose motor with 90 Nm of torque similar to what's in a Specialized Turbo Levo, just without magnes...

Wayne, there are a few BH full suspension ebikes that might be compelling to someone on a tight budget. BH decided to exit the ebike market in North America and their largest US dealer is clearing out remaining inventory. Apparently comes with 5 year BH warranty although seems it will be supported t...

Re: Wayne’s Dengfu Carbon Fibre FS 27.5” with Bafang M600 (throttle also)

Sadly Bafang went another direction with the M600. You are stuck with what you get and it cannot be programmed without dealer programming. At least with Bosch, Yamaha, Shimano, Brose etc. you get app support to tune things somewhat. Don't even think the M600 comes with bluetooth so no app support wi...

Re: Wayne’s Dengfu Carbon Fibre FS 27.5” with Bafang M600 (throttle also)

I think I'd still lean toward the X1 with the quieter gear if power and battery capacity was more important. As leelorr notes there are some nice closeouts to consider if you're looking at FS euro spec bikes but I'll PM so as not to clutter up Wayne's thread.

Re: Wayne’s Dengfu Carbon Fibre FS 27.5” with Bafang M600 (throttle also)

That’s the dengfu I was considering: I believe it comes with the ultra motor, though, not the 600. Going back to your bike: can you compare how the 600 responds to pedaling, compared to a big-name motor (like Bosch or Yamaha?). The throttle is a nice touch: but I’m wondering how good the torque sen...

Re: Bafang Ultra Discussion

Quite a bit more powerful but not as refined when it comes to finer details like torque sensing so depends on what you mean by feel. At your price point I'm assuming power vs. budget is more important.

Might depend on what you're looking to tune. For example, you can throw a phaserunner in an Ultra for more power but not sure it's going to be more refined than the stock controller.

Re: Bfang M600 Vs others (Bosh, shimano, ect) Reliability wise

I suppose you could. It's ultimately just a motor that takes orders from the controller. It's unfortunate Bafang didn't make it programmable by default. Perhaps the company that makes the aftermarket controller for the Ultra will eventually work their magic on the M600.

Yeah, no dice on M600. Not sure you can even program speed limit. Euro spec are more programmable with app and third party tuning. M600 could have been a game changer but mostly a letdown in my book.

As you probably know the M600 can't be programmed so make sure you're good with the stock programming. If you're near Luna or FLX you might to take one for a test ride to see if you can live with it.

BTW, if you are looking for a reasonably priced FS mid drive (not that you seem worried about cost or want a manufacturer built bike) there are some very compelling options out there. BH reportedly plans to leave the US ebike market and auctioned off their inventory. Last month I snapped up a few BH...

Re: Stronger hub for 2k mid-drive fatty?

The dead stop comment was for the stock bafang ultra controller. To get Rohloff certification they could only offer a 750W version of the Ultra if you wanted throttle. They are in the process of upgrading to the newer aftermarket controller which allows them to limit throttle to 90nm while not cappi...

What are you looking for? Commuter? Trail bike? I think M600 reliability will be fine. The bigger difference IMO (ignoring reliability and power) is how refined the motors are. I can tell you there was a night and day difference between the Turbo Levo I test rode (Brose motor) and the Luna X1 (M600 ...

Re: Stronger hub for 2k mid-drive fatty?

If the torque needs to be limited for throttle control, why doesn't it for PAS? I am guessing PAS blends in the delivery so less likely to damage the hub from abrupt changes. Re: Stronger hub for 2k mid-drive fatty?

Luna put the 5 Speed Sturmey Archer in the BABE. They indicate the stock m600 puts out 800 watts and 120nm of torque. They will not offer ludicrous controller (double current) on the BABE due to concerns the hub cannot handle more than stock. https://lunacycle.com/babe/ Also, see comments here by Wa...
