Very interesting bike. That must be some kind of "string" that transmits the combined power of the riders legs and arms to the rear wheel.

It is certainly possible that I damaged something while soldering things in place. I initially had trouble with the 4110 fets because of my underpowered soldering iron, maybe I damaged one or more of them?

Used the meter with locked ranged and observed voltage at the controller. Turns out the voltage changes are sufficiently slow and small enough in magnitude that the bargraph probably wasn't necessary. With control voltage on, voltage at the controller is about 70 v. I have a Fluke 117 which although I have never paid attention, I think has a bargraph which is supposed to respond relatively rapidly to voltage changes. So if I just monitor voltage at the connection to the controller using the Fluke 117, it should yield the kind data that could be helpful?

I used 4 x IRFB4110 main FETs. On my bike I rarely exceed 2 kw, so I am not anticipating any heating problems for the switch.

That's a rather special and unique bike. Others may disagree, but I wouldn't screw it up by converting to an ebike. Get a much less expensive bike for conversion to an ebike. Best wishes.
