Re: How do I fit a 15" hub motor into a 16" wheel?

Thanks Amberwolf, knowing that those examples were radial may help find them.

Funny how short spokes actually need to be THINNER in order to be tensioned properly.

I'll let you know what I find.

How do I fit a 15" hub motor into a 16" wheel?

Title says it all. I bought a 700c close-out bike kit for a friend that changed her mind and gave it to me. I would like to install this hub motor into a kick bike with 16" wheels. I'm worried that having only 1" to spoke may angle the nipples too much for durability. I've looked around on the inter...

Re: A123 18650 for sale

Hey! Glad they got there ok. I have been using a CBA III for my discharge testing. I think I will be changing my procedure very soon. Thanks for the suggestion re: the turnigy unit, I'll be checking that out. I'm due for an upgrade. I expect about 80% good from unsorted cells from Dewalt packs, so y...

Re: A123 18650 for sale

PM me an address and a number of cells to quote shipping.

Typical specs from my testing of ~300 cells are:
Voltage = 3.6v
Capacity = 0.95 - 1.05 Ah

Watt Hours = 3.6 x 0.95
=3.42 Wh

Factory specs are nominal 3.6v 1.1 Ah
Wh = 1.1 x 3.6
= 3.96

Re: A123 18650 for sale

The cells I'm looking to buy come in sealed Dewalt 18v packs, so I know they're legit. They are 18650 size, that's for sure.

I have taken apart the big 36v packs and they have the larger 26650 size cells. In what size of packs did you find the 26650's?

Re: A123 18650 for sale

Yes, Makita are Konions, I've opened a few myself. I think maybe his point is that a high performance cell such as either A123 or Konion has a value of about $1/cell? I've done a little more research on used 18650's based on items sold in this subforum. Packs made from Tesla and similar high capacit...

Re: A123 18650 for sale

$1 per cell eh? I'm a bit surprised, but I appreciate the info. I can't bid on the cells unless I have that info. A123 used to be fairly popular around here. I guess they aren't the darling they once were. What type of cells are hot right now? I read some posts about samsung cells being popular to m...

Re: LWB recumbent mid-drive (RC brushless?)

I would choose the motor for the desired kV and limit the power through the controller. Having more power than you want isn't that much of a problem. You could even put a mechanical stop on the throttle so that you can't open it up. As you've figured out, there isn't much out there to do what you wa...

Re: Pack building business advice - What do I need?

Thanks WB, for the Hymotion reference, I will look that up after I post this. I've been reading about graphing cell impedance during charge and discharge as a predictor of cell life. Now, how to do that? I've been looking for a description of how to do a true 4-wire measurement of internal resistanc...

Re: Pack building business advice - What do I need?

Thank you WB, that's really good info.

In the warranty centre, how do you ascertain the remaining life left in a cell?

Thanks GB, I will reach out to Calbike and see how they handled the issue.

Re: Pack building business advice - What do I need?

Good stuff, thanks. The BOXES have to be tested? Wow. I'm surprised that companies don't just choose already tested boxes, instead of testing new ones. I'm not terribly surprised though. I've had some dealings with a friend trying to manufacture exterior lights. Each design has to be tested, about 1...

Wow, crickets!

Someone out there must know someone who builds packs for pay?

Heck, I'm contacting Ezee and Allcell just to get someone to talk to.

How many packs would you have to build in order to get your money back on the welder? The welds are beautiful!

Pack building business advice - What do I need?

I would like to set up a business in Canada building and selling battery packs to Canada, US and Europe. I know that most kind souls will try to dissuade me from doing so, with the best of intentions. That said, I'm hoping to find a way to comply with regulations, and minimize liability to the point...

Re: Bulk Charge - there must be a better way

Hmm, it sounds like I'm doing as well as can be expected. I looked into some RC chargers, big suckers, to get the rapid charge, but they're expensive, and I couldn't verify that they could do 1s anyway. A buddy of mine said that he could add the CC/CV behavior to my power supply via a cutoff relay o...
