Re: charging 36v from 12v

This is what I am using. 12v-ish provided by solar panel. Output is programmed to 41.5v cutoff, which is about 2.5amps w/100watt power supply. Problem is that current output is not configurable. With unlimited 12V power source this charge controller will switch 300 watts which is quite a bit of amps...

Re: Build Report: MPPT Solar Charging Station for Etrike

Is that a measured charge rate? If so, that's pretty darned good. I've considered doing something like this, but my bike is with me during the day. Though now with my shorter commute I could split my battery and leave one half home for charging while I run the bike with the other. Of course, given ...

Re: Tropical Mountain & Beach Daily Driver

I lived and worked all over Latin Amer. for 20 years, 7 of those years in Playa de Coco (Playa de Locos), Guanacaste (NW CR). A lot of those places, I shipped an Ebike because the Co. I was working for was shipping a container anyway, but I didn't have an Ebike in CR and I don't think it would have...

Build Report: MPPT Solar Charging Station for Etrike

Works great. Charges 10S6P 18AH pack at rate of 2.5amps in full sun. I use it for both my Etrikes. Anchored 100W panel to south-facing side of garage. Grounded panel to steel pipe on gas meter using 12awg solid copper. Drilled 1/2" hole through wall for 12awg solid copper wire to charge controller. ...

Re: DIY case for 12V 11-Ah pack from pouch cells

I use a waterproof guncase which houses 3S3P 12V 24AH pack build for my E-kayak project. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JVA7UGM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It houses the BMS and speed-control/throttle for the brushed trolling motor also. This doubles as my power source for...

Re: 17a or 20a controller?

Power delivered to motor has little to do with controller's max amp rating......it is a function of motor's KV, battery's impedance, motor&controller's impedance, battery voltage, and finally waveform delivered to motor by controller. If you take a controller rated at 5000amps with 36V input, power ...

Re: Q128C motor teardown reviews new version corrected clutch spring issue.

Motor put back together and mounted on trike.....just finished 20 minute ride.
The light swishing noise is still there...mostly happens when trike is at 18mph and 23mph (max speed). Does not happen at lower speeds.

Re: Q128C clutch is starting to slip.

Interesting find.....my Q128C (purchased January 2019) has an updated version of the clutch. It uses the typical 3 rollers and 3 springs....but it also has three hollow cylinders that are solid at one end which encapsulate each spring. The cylinder/spring assembly slides into a hole (in past designs...

Re: Q128C clutch is starting to slip.

That was easy to open.....all I had to do was: remove wheel from trike remove 8sp gear basket Using bench-vice, open wide enough to accomidate 3/16" lip on CST-side of case. Clamp motor housing (only the 3/16" lip) tightly(!) Grab entire wheel, spin counter-clockwise to loosen (but dont take apart y...

Q128C motor teardown reviews new version corrected clutch spring issue.

Edit: Changed title from "Q128C clutch is starting to slip." to "Q128C motor teardown reviews new version" because of BMS clutch redesign that corrected clutch spring issues (mangled springs, slipping clutch). *** ***Original post***** Still pulls fine, but clutch started slipping on my last ride (m...

Re: Heavy Duty Ebike Brakes Suggestions?

I went to larger rotors.
All I had to do was make sure everything clears OK with new rotors, buy a pair of caliper mounts for new rotor size.
I did go with floating rotors whose rivets rubbed a bit on caliper, so I had to do some minor dremo tool grinding on caliper frames.
Braking is much better.

I saw a park ranger call out an e-bike rider on FL bike path.......

I was talking with a park ranger at my half-way point of my ride (road bike) today. An older gentleman with a nice E-Bike pulls up beside us. The park ranger asks him if it is peddle assist. The owner says it will do peddle-assist or can be used with a throttle. The ranger says that E-Bikes are not ...

Even some quite wealthy people are surprisingly frugal and consider frugality to be a virtue as well as a good first step towards building wealth.
Frugal habits die hard.
One who achieves wealth of his own making often never increases spending once wealthy.

How I "unstuck" hub motor clutch

BMS Q128C Motor was practically new when clutch hung up. I complained to seller to no avail. My wife has been riding around for past 100 miles knowing that the hub motor clutch was stuck. I did not want to tear down....no time or desire. Anyway, I had an idea: What if I disconnected motor, shorted o...

The motor could be running BACKWARDS?
Check controller programming to make sure it did not auto-configure the motor to spin backwards.

Warning for those who bulk charge using bench power supply

However yesterday my 5A/60V bench power supply shot up to maximum pre-regulated DC voltage output @maximum amps without warn...

Thanks for the help all....I went to buy a new one (I paid $14) but none to be found....cost $40+ now. So I went to work on this one. I blew up my 60V-max PS today, so could not test at 48V. Controller is 36V/48V capable (auto sensing)....I wonder if the 11S pack threw the LVC out of wack?? Based on everything you've reported, that'd be my bet. OK....I think your right. Now I need to figure out how to undo 48V LVC. Today I mounted my 10S sanyo pack back on (its been 48 hours since I ha...
