Re: The SB Cruiser: Amberwolf&Dogman's 2WD CargoTrike&DogCarrier

Been working extra shifts at work; no time or energy to do stuff. About all I can do is help out here on ES between dozing/waking off and on all night. Did have to fix one thing, spent what little I had of a partial day off locating a wiring fault in the rear turn signals / tail / brake lights. Turn...

Re: Can we parallel BMSs to handle high current ?

If the BMS is well-designed, and takes the idea of paralleling into consideration, you might be able to safely do so. If it doesn't, then if one BMS shuts down and another doesn't, or has a delay, now it's handling all the current, and if it can't handle the full current flowing at that time, it'll ...

Re: Parallel "Groups" or Parallel Strings or Neither ?

Note taht I am replying to each of the replies above that has misconceptions, so I can be sure the correct information is being passed along. There are multiple concepts being discussed in this thread, and some of them are being confused with each other. So, if the pack is instead built using parall...

Re: Parallel "Groups" or Parallel Strings or Neither ?

So, spinningmagnets belief makes e~sense in light of amberwolf's belief that it's best to have just one Series String being fed by Parallel Groups (whether a DIY triangular or rectangular pack). No. That is not my belief at all. I only explained to you the difference between the two ways of wiring ...

Re: Parallel "Groups" or Parallel Strings or Neither ?

Amberwolf's justification makes sense for just having one Series String in a triangular pack being fed by Parallel Groups for the sake of incorporating a "smart" BMS. However, for some reason that same elogic doesn't seem to apply to rectangular packs having 2 or more Series Strings paralled throug...

Unless I misunderstood the text for each of the images in his post, he made his own, by combining the inner part of a lekkie ring with the tooth part of a gates belt sprocket.

Re: Is a leisurely pedal cadence possible going 25 mph on an ebike?

In my dream world, I would pedal with the pedal cadence and power effort that would get me going 10 mph on your run of the mill 3 speed and the motor would do the rest to get me to 25 mph. Basically, I'd love to get to work not sweating too much. I'm guessing I would need a giant crankset for that,...

Re: Parallel "Groups" or Parallel Strings or Neither ?

So, according to your explanation it makes good DIY sense that the reason even a substantial 13S17P pack ... https://endless-sphere.com/forums/download/file.php?id=262218 ... has only one meandering 13S String is for ease of balance charging (with a smart BMS) the 17P Groups. Is that correct or did...

Re: Parallel "Groups" or Parallel Strings or Neither ?

If by "string" you mean a series of cells (none in parallel) that equal the pack voltage, and by "group" you mean a parallel set of cells (none in series) that equal the cell voltage, then the following are consequences of each. If you mean something else, explicitly define that and we can explain t...

Re: Accidentally revert the battery polarity

There's a few easy ways to prevent this kind of thing, and essentially none of the "generic" controllers (any of the commonly available stuff) have any of that protection. There's quite a few common "oopsies" that can happen, none of which are protected against in the least. Costs money both to desi...

Re: Accidentally revert the battery polarity

I suppose you can compare readings on a working unit with the dead one, if you really want to fix it just for the challenge. :)

Just don't slip with the probes and short anything out. ;)

Re: Accidentally revert the battery polarity

Yeah. It's probably a lot easier to just buy a new controller than to fix this one, unless you just like a challenge. ;) I did some poking around but couldn't find anyone that's already drawn up a schematic. Looks like they're around $15-$20, depending on shipping costs. https://www.google.com/searc...

But wouldn't too great a voltage drop mean a super slow limp-home mode?
Or even a nonfunctional system because the pack could be below controller LVC.

Re: hall throttle for CA v3.1 aux input?

But the potentiometer setting has more levels, right? Yes, but it only affects a single parameter, whichever you've set it to of the available ones. Presets can affect multiple parameters (not all of them, unfortunately) at the same time, making them also useful for certain things the other can't b...

Re: Max comfortable width of pack mounted in triangle

Post pics of the triangle please. I about to be building a new battery pack and it’s going to be a 20S10P pack mounted in the triangle of my 1999 rockhopper. Because of the number of cells and the shape of my triangle and to give me good options for keeping current flow healthy I think I’m going to...

Re: hall throttle for CA v3.1 aux input?

EDIT: If the Potentiometer setting is only looking for voltage, then the input doesn't necessarily need to be analog. So, a set of say, 5 liquid level sensors could be used with a reservoir of some sort, using sensors like these: The Presets mode works using up to three voltage levels, using a volt...

Re: hall throttle for CA v3.1 aux input?

You don't want something that automatically applies more power because of acceleration itself, or it will just ramp up to full power and stay there until you shut it down (assuming you have a way to do that). Same thing for auto-deceleration, it'll just grind to a stop and hold there. All you would ...

Re: hall throttle for CA v3.1 aux input?

Aux in will only control one parameter at a time. You have to change it in setup for which one it affects. There's a number of limiters you could use the aux input to control that would help extend range. Power limiting is probably the best one to try first, but you can experiment with any of them. ...

Re: Insulator material for battery build

In the many many battery build threads, there are a number of options, from FR-4 to Nomex to "fish paper" to plastics of various kinds to cardboard, etc. One problem with many plastics is they deform under heat, and most DIY (and even commercial) 18650 packs are made from cells that generate a fair ...

Re: hall throttle for CA v3.1 aux input?

NOw, that said, If you set up the cadence PAS correctly for your stuff, you don't really need levels for the assist, because it's not just on/off like generic setups are--it's proportional, just like the throttle, because it's controlling how much throttle the controller actually gets. You can still...
