Re: Emmo Urban/Dyad DS1 battery replacement/upgrade

That's usually a sign that the battery is failing and unable to keep up with the demands made on it.

Re: Throttle Master (Throttle Remapping and Filtering tool)

I looked into it and the throttle tamer seems to be a mechanical thing that does one thing, which is damp the throttle. ZombieSS's throttle tamer wasn't mechanical, it was a little MCU-based device that could adjust throttle response; I can't recall everything it did (I have one here someplace), bu...

Re: Common port charging problem

Without seeing a wiring diagram, pictures, etc., I can only guess that it sounds like the charger itself, or the charge port on the battery, is wired incorrectly (reversed wiring, for instance). Note that if you get smoke out of a device (the BMS? charger? wiring? can't tell from your description), ...

I wouldn't mind at least trying to decipher the USB connect, but don't know if the programing is loaded, accessible, or maybe even in Chinese. :?: Any setup program is something you would need to download from the manufacturer website (unless the seller(s) have it available), or find as an app on p...

Re: Throttle ?: Using a pot instead of hall/magnet throttle.

I've made a device called Throttle Master that can make a pot throttle work on a bike expecting hall voltage levels. It can also make a Hall throttle work on a bike expecting a pot signal. It can also change and modulate and smooth the signal in any way. It can also remap the voltages to anywhere y...

Sounds interesting, something like the ZombieSS Throttle Tamer. Is there a github repo (or similar) for the project? I have made a device called Throttle Master. Here is a small set of its features. It can convert a hall throttle to pot output. It can convert pot throttle to hall output. It can rema...

Re: Do you use male or female on your controllers battery wires?

(for some people I know, the wall outlets actually need a self-resetting switch so that when a device is unplugged from it, it turns the outlet off, and requires you go somewhere else in the room where you cannot touch that outlet to get to the switch to turn it back on. )

Re: Paralleling packs with a protection diode?

One problem with diodes (and FETs, etc) is that a fairly common failure mode is shorted, both directions. (some resistance, but low). If the safe operation of a device requires the diode to block reverse current flow, and there is no fast-acting fuse present in the path to prevent that in the event ...

Re: Do you use male or female on your controllers battery wires?

I use genderless Anderson SB50s, which dont' have easily shorted contacts.

But...if I had to use a connector that did have easily shorted contacts, I'd use the half that shielded them as best it could on anything with a voltage "always" present.

Re: How to know how much battery volts the ebike controller can take?

Truthfully, you won't know until it fails for how high a voltage it will take. ;) Keep in mind that you want to leave a margin, somewhere around 20%, for "random" voltage spikes during operation. If you push it to the edge, then one of those can just take it out at any time (usually blowin...

You could use a magnet ring that has more magnets. If you need something closer to 1/4 turn of the pedals before it starts, you would need 16 times the number of magnets it has already. How many does it have now? If the display has a setting for how many magnets the PAS sensor has, and it's not alre...

I'm not sure what to make the walls of the battery box out of, aluminum sheet, fiberglass, steel sheet? Thoughts?
Fiberglass.

Then you can make it into the shape of Pikachu, and run your battery wires like this:

Re: IR Camera enough. Or thermal camera necessary?

Will the thermal camera show you the *internal* stator-winding temperatures, thru the metal side casing that is blocking the heat from simply radiating away from those windings? My guess is that it won't--you will probably at best see a delayed heat transfer "image" (how long a delay I don...

The conditions for the test are locking the brakes up and giving it full throttle usually, only this time I didn't need to, because the throttle is so soggy and the 500w max is obvious. (It acts like it's in the 72v mode, so I'll check that out today.) I'll check the voltage sag too, but I have to ...

If you're willing to open it up, you could check for broken wires, or wires connected to the wrong places. (for the latter, you'd have to compare to the working one, and I don't recommend opening that just to check things out because there is always a risk of breaking something, or ESD damage, etc)....

I added another B- plug that bypasses the BMS and shunt, so I can go either way, but it doesn't seem to make any difference yet. I was hoping for a document laying out the controller's cables, including the purpose of each (e.g., + 5V, gnd, or "connect to speed potentiometer") , its color, and the connector type. Very very few give this info. Grin Tech at http://ebikes.ca has it for most of their stuff. It's the on...

Re: Can I build an EV bike battery using Prius HV modules?

Now, before you decide which thing to build:

What kind of range do you need?

At what speed?

Under what riding conditions?

Those are going to primarily determine whether any of these things are practical for your needs.
