Re: Amberwolf's Cloudwalker Cargo Bike

I didn't get any further on this (and probably wont' for a while) because right after the above, Kirin suddenly got sick (or rather, got sicker, enough to make it obvious, but apparently has been for a while now and we just though it was arthritis...it's actually a heart condition called DCM. :( ). ...

Re: Welding down a torque arm

FWIW, with a clamping torque arm (that is thoroughly attached to the frame), you wouldn't need axle nuts/washers (except whatever is used to mate the axle shoulders to the frame).

Re: Ebike Battery stored for a long tome

Some of the old Giant bikes used 24v (about 29v full) NiCd or NiMH batteries, which don't typically have a BMS. These may drain down to completely empty and still be able to recharge fully (though over time they do lose capacity, and/or current-delivery-capability. If the battery gets warm or even h...

Re: Sabvoton SVMC 72150 not working...

It's probably not the controller; it's more likely to be the battery. A cell or cells in the battery are too low for safe operation, and when a load is placed on the BMS discharge port, it shuts down the output to protect the cells. Previously, it was just that the cell(s) were low when under a high...

Re: Killed 2 bafang SWX02 motors. Yes, two!!!

when i didn't get any positive results, i hooked up the tester and one thing i still don't understand is it's okay that the phase-wire lights all twinkle at once as the wheel is spun, which is the case now, as opposed to sequentially, one after the other, which i believe i read is how it's supposed...

Re: Regenerative braking help?

If you have no ebrake wires from the controller either as a pair for a switch for on/off braking or as a triple for a second throttle for variable braking force, So I ordered some momentary push buttons that I’ll connect to the break cut off switch. I guess in my thinking since I’ve never used regi...

Re: Regenerative braking help?

Regen current is probably battery amps of negative current, and is a limit to prevent damaging a battery from overcharging current, as well as to allow you to limit the max braking torque you may get. So how much regen current can I start safely with? You have to check the charging current limit fo...

Re: I just had a crack at a through hole power stage

It's open source if you want to build your own brain board and flash the chip (look thru lebowski's posts for his thread about that; you could even modify the code to suit your needs), or Kiwifiat makes a small SMD brain board (that's what I got last year). BobC had a thread for building the thru-ho...

Re: Instant Start 18 fet Infineon Boards are here...

A controller? Sure. There's a bunch of development threads you can follow for how to design and build one, from little es8-sized stuff up to drag-race-car-level power. But it is not easy or cheap (you'll probably blow up a lot of parts in development, and you'll need various bits of test equipment t...

Re: I just had a crack at a through hole power stage

I'd go ahead and put it out there, because there are people that might build things like the Lebowski controller variants that need a powerstage. (If I could reliably build stuff completely "from scratch" anymore, I would do it...but I went for hacking the Lebowski brain onto the Honda IMA...

Re: Regenerative braking help?

If you have no ebrake wires from the controller either as a pair for a switch for on/off braking or as a triple for a second throttle for variable braking force, then the only other way it could work is "slip regen", where when you roll off the throttle (rather than letting it go completel...

Re: More newbie questions about USB ports and lights.

Rather than bodging together the ports with diodes (which may work, but risks damaging both ports and whatever electronics in the batteries drive them) I would recommend simply using a DC-DC converter that takes your battery voltage and converts it to the lighting voltage. They're not really expensi...

So my dog-luck for this week, the last week of april, which I have to take off work each year because the stress of all the things that have happened the last "many" years like the housefire, Tiny's death, etc., keeps me from being able to deal with stuff at work, continues to be awful. Ki...

amberwolf - well, the Whiz Wheelz seats aren't quite the best geometry so I was going to follow a seat plan that a guy on the recumbent message board suggested, but even after printing out his templates I only succeeded in ruining a piece and a half of 1/2 EMT conduit, so I scrapped the idea of mak...

Re: Hydrogen Drive - We Made the Battery Obsolete

We will definitely run a system on the bench to show it supporting a load without any input power too. We can plug in to store the gas, then unplug and use the gas to run the motor. So it is just another kind of battery, then--chemical/mechanical, in that it takes the input power and converts it in...

Re: KT LCD9 display - Possibly dead?

There is a little power converter (LVPS) inside the LCD; this could have failed. But it's just as possible that the wiring or connector (or pins in it) between the controller side of the connection and the LCD failed. The latter is relatively easy to diagnose and fix; the former is easy to diagnose ...

Re: Overdischarge of Lithium Iron Phosphate

THe cells *are* damaged, and will not perform like they used to. How safe it is to recharge them will depend on the damage that has occured to them. If they are swollen up, they may be damaged in unrecoverable ways. Not every cell behaves the same when this happens, but since the cells were probably...
