Re: Series BMS Confusion

Ok, then I mis-understood what you meant by this. The diodes, AFAIK, need to be rated for sufficient current to match any flow the system might have to put thru them, and the highest reverse voltage the system would put across them...... Yeah, that's because the diodes would be installed reverse-bi...

Re: Series BMS Confusion

The circuit *is* broken, but because it's broken across the FET, the full potential difference of the rest of the pack - through the system (Being presumably a closed circuit), goes through the FET, potentially destroying it - just like having too high a voltage through a physical switch could caus...

Re: Series BMS Confusion

Where does the reverse current hit? What part of the circuit. Reverse current (from regen) flows thru the *entire* series circuit, from motor phase wires back thru the controller thru the BMS thru the cells, thru the BMS of the next pack and it's cells, etc, all the way back to the controller.... Re: New setup will not throttle!

Checked the throttle and it is at the same 4.8v at rest as it is twisted. Assuming you have the throttle connected to the controller's throttle wires ;) that means either you have a short in the wiring between power and throttle output, or a broken ground to the throttle, or a defective throttle (l...

from another thread, altered a bit to fit your circumstances: First, is the original throttle a potentiometer throttle or a hall throttle? A multimeter can be used to tell which you have. Disconect throttle from bike wiring, then set meter on ohms, black to one of the three throttle wires, red to on...

Re: Mxus 30h wobbling, please me find out why

Most likely the parts inside the freehub are machined off-center; it's really common with freewheels, though the freehubs I've had on regular bike hubs have not had that sort of issue. Not much you can do about it. Thankfully, the wobble itself doesn't really affect operation of the pedals (or the m...

Re: Increasing controller power to my 1000W DD hub motor

I was hoping to keep my LCD3 system though. As long as you get a KT brand controller, it should still work (though you might have to add the wiring to connect it). There's also firmware by Casainho, Stancecoke, and others, in various threads around the forum, that replaces the KT and LCD3 firmware ...

Re: Series BMS Confusion

When the BMS trips from LVC, that part of the circuit becomes open, right? Doesn't that mean the whole pack now is 0v? How does it get the voltage of the rest of the pack on it? That's an easy one to "see" with a voltmeter. If you have a keyswitch or similar on your bike, measure the voltage across...

Re: Motor options for sportbike conversion

Interesting, just one draw back is I can't change the gear ratio. You can effectively change it by changing the voltage of the system. If you need higher speeds, increase the system voltage (and potentially the current). Depending on the motor wind, it can shift the power band around. See http://eb...

Re: Best controller to use with qs 205?

There's two things called "speed" throttles. One is an open-loop that really just uses the throttle position to control the duty cycle of the PWM that sets the average voltage on the motor. Effectively it controls the voltage, and thus the speed, of the motor, but it doesnt' regulate that speed--jus...

Which cable for what motor / controller system? They're all different wire sizes, connectors, etc. Most people when this happens just splice in new wires of the same or larger gauge past the breaks. A bicycle rim needs to flex.

Motorcycle rims are different!
Not really, they both work on exactly the same principles. The difference is in the weight and shock loadings on them, tire pressures/masses, etc.

Re: Increasing controller power to my 1000W DD hub motor

I have some generic "48v" 15FET controller that was "rated" for around 30A, got peaks of around 33-35A ish. It had two shunts in it. I added a third shunt (from some random dead controller) in parallel with the first two , and that upped it's limit to around 80A. I have no idea what the original shu...

Going through what's built into the motor simulator on ebikes.ca, kv seems to be the issue, which is no surprise really. FWIW, if a hubmotor isn't fast en...

Depends on the battery (BMS design, really), but they generally shouldn't have a problem. Goodwill and other thrift stores often have decent bikes for $20 or thereabouts; most will need some to all of the rubber bits replaced (brake pads, tires, tubes, sometimes seat and grips and such), so they'll still end up costing around $50-100 (depending on what bits you already have) once fixed u...

Re: Built my mom an ebike and it's destroying batteries

Does it work with the wheel off-ground? If so, then the load while riding is too high for hte batteries, and the BMS in the batteries are shutting down to protect them. If there is no BMS, then that means the cells can't output enough current so they drop in voltage so far that the controller shuts ...

Now how do i arrive at the power (in kW - don't care bout antiquated HP) that will be generated by each motor at say 2000 RPM If it's a hubmotor, it's probably not designed to run anywhere near that speed, usually just a few hundred RPM max. If it's meant to run at say, 300RPM at 72v, then to get 2...
