Re: electrifying a cannondale bad boy 700

Super nice and very shiny! thanks! 1. How is that fiberglass looks so nicely finished. How it got so smooth from being rough? - sanding/polishing (ATTENTION here, protect yourself! The dust is dangerous.) - primer - finish (this was some expensive two component finish especially designed for sailpl...

Re: electrifying a cannondale bad boy 700

Seriously considering doing this for my next build. I hope the op is able to give some feedback about how it the enclosure copes with frame flex? I run a steel frame trek mtb and a see loads of flex going on between my knees as a motor along. With the rigid mounting method this is all transferred t...

Re: electrifying a cannondale bad boy 700

that's a good idea. you have to work very precisely and cover the spokes with tape or something so the epoxy will not get into them I think. and maybe if you want to open a triangle form you probably have to split the zippers in two parts other than going around a curve while at the third side you c...

Re: electrifying a cannondale bad boy 700

You should just use the ignition wire on your controller, and rig that up to your keyswitch. Yes I did so after replacing the blown controller with an infineon. I then also connected another low current switch in parallel on the outside for just turning off the bike when I am on a "safe" place. I m...

yeah that's why my lock barrel just pushes an on-off push button and then goes back and the keys go back in the pocket where they belong... :)

Re: electrifying a cannondale bad boy 700

that way you could use the key to turn off the controller current and disable the bike too. that would allow you to have two parallel switches also so if you lost your key, you could use the switch on the controller to turn it on, but otherwise leave it turned off. not secure, but they are gonna st...

Re: electrifying a cannondale bad boy 700

if your pack is always on the bike, you can eliminate the large current cables from the switch and leave them connected permanently to the controller by soldering them. but you need to put a switch inline on the small red wire which carries the controller circuit current from the battery to the con...

Re: electrifying a cannondale bad boy 700

UPDATE: I burned two mosfets of my ezee controller while dragging my two kid uphill. Got a new 25A Infineon. System works again. But I need a better solution for the power switch. the contacts of my cheap switch behind my lock also did not survived the "accident". Amberwolf pointed me at a soultion ...

Re: What are people doing to disconnect the battery

Yes, just remember that that real "kill switch" must be able to handle the full peak and continuous current that your system will draw, even if it can't switch that current off more than once, because all power will be in series thru it all the time the system is running. So to have this kill switc...

Re: What are people doing to disconnect the battery

If you are already going a bit complex, then you could use a contactor, which is a sealed relay designed for connecting and disconnecting stuff like this, and in general would also be rated to still be able disconnect under load in the event of an emergency requiring you to do so. A low-current swi...

Re: What are people doing to disconnect the battery

thanks amberwolf for the quick answer. if you have seen my design you understand why I have to go for such a solution. A further disadvantage is that failure of the MOSFET is usually in the shorted state, meaning you could not turn off the system without physically disconnecting the battery. that co...

Re: electrifying a cannondale bad boy 700

I don't know if I missed it, but how did you mount the box to the frame? Beside the four drink holder holes I had my bike shop drill two additional holes at the top tube and place inserts in it. The box then was mounted with screws from the inside using hard plastic spacers between frame and box. N...
