Re: Elevator to space?

Well, why not build it at one of the earth's poles, so that it isn't moving at 17,000 miles per hour. And how about using readily available material to create a tower, which would reach way up there? Oh yeah, the material would be seawater, frozen in massive layers, one on top of the other. It could...

Re: A "new" lithium battery, I've personally never heard of.

The only packs that use NMC are the 2012 packs. They don't have them listed for sale for another few weeks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming that you're referring to the Zero packs. Here's a link to the Spec page for the 2012 models. I'm also assuming that these new offerings will have the...

Re: A "new" lithium battery, I've personally never heard of.

NMC - buy a Zero motorcycle  About the only way to get your hands on them. From what I've heard, it performs like Lipo with the safety and cycle life of iron phosphate. I'm always a bit skeptical about cycle life predictions until it's been real-world tested, but these look very promising. I'...

Does anyone know if these are top grade genuine a123 cells? Also is a123rc.com a reputable seller? An ES member itselectric sells NiCoMn batteries, but I've never been able to locate detailed pack/cell specifications on his site http://us.itselectric.ca/LiFePO4_ebike_Li_Ni_Mn_Co_02_NiCd_NiMH_Phosphate_s/48.htm I don't know if they are the same cells as bmsbatttey uses or if the cells he sells (on...

Re: LI-ion NiCoMn Battery from BMSBattery

Mystery to be solved here, because the 48V 10ah battery has a 2c continuous rating http://www.bmsbattery.com/48v/166-48v-10ah-lithium-ion-electric-bicycle-battery-pack.html Do you suppose the batteries are 2c (or more) capable, but they're using the same stupid one version fits all BMS on the 20ah v...

Welcome to ES guys. The batteries at joyfay.com appear to be Codd Power Soft Series batteries http://www.coddpower.com/pack-16s.html It also seems that there has been some difficulty buying directly from Codd Power, although one ES member was able to find a price list on their site, which shows lowe...

Someone I knew got back to me and said that they always remember a "rule of thumb" I gave them. If you spend a lot of time sleeping, then buy a nice bed. If you like to cook a lot, then buy nice cookware and outfit your kitchen. If you watch a lot of TV then buy a great TV. Way too many people put t...

Well, it looks to me like there's a lot of factors that go into determining if a helmet is necessary or advisable. Know thyself, seems appropriate in assessing the risks involved! Some people have a little black cloud that follows them around and you just know that something bad is going to happen b...

Re: Fort Collins e-bike rider collides with Expedition

Whenever anyone says "I would never do XXX without wearing a helmet", they are subtracting against whatever small protection that helmet offers. (And the protection is small; basically mitigating a fall from a standing position at zero mph.) Therefore, whenever someone says "I'd never ride in traff...

Gary and Tony, You'll get no argument from me that helmet improve survivability in the event of a crash on a bicycle. While I'm sure there are cases where the helmet physically caused greater injury, those numbers have to be so small as to be statistically insignificant. Since helmet use is so comm...

There are worse things in life than getting your head ripped off due to a helmet. Try going into a long-term care facility and see head injury victims. Imagine laying in a bed for over 20 years, unable to move, or communicate. You've had a feeding tube inserted into your stomach because you will asp...

Re: 48v 15 ah V2 pingbattery at 225 cycles.

You would not want to run a48v 15 ah ping on a 40 amp controller, and especially not with a big watt hungry motor like the 5300 series clytes. So electric rider was right on with that advice. I run my pings on lame 22 amp controllers running smaller motors for boring commutes to work at 20-25 mph. ...
