Re: Calling all Belt Drive Experts

Ovalized chainrings are back in style, no? While I suspect some of this variance is caused by cooling differences within the filament layers due to infill/print direction, the majority will be due to discrepancies in the steps/software rounding errors between the X and Y axis on the printer. ...

Re: Calling all Belt Drive Experts

@Skaiwerd: Awesome work on that pulley, very cool of you to send that out! @FZBob: Another idea for a cheap/easy belt idler without having to modify your existing motor mount, just need to pick-up 3 624 Bearings (4mm Id, 13mm OD, 5mm width) and use one of your existing motor mounting bolts like this...

Two great free programs: Onshape and Fusion 360 Onshape is browser based and works on just about any machine, but the free version requires all of your designs to be visible to other users- no private storage. Re: Calling all Belt Drive Experts

... I think instead of using a belt drive you might also consider a big 3D printed ring gear (beside the crank chain wheel) and a small metal pinion gear (on the motor) with a fine enough pitch to allow more than the 1:10 reduction. Maybe try to get to 1:20 even. Basically a low power, single stage...

Re: Calling all Belt Drive Experts

Just went down the rabbit hole on Tom Stanton's Ebike build series on YouTube; he's been finding great success with 15mm wide HTD5M belts (up to 1500mm length) and large 3D printed pulleys- his latest V4 configuration shows him running peaks of 4kw through the above mentioned set-up. Here's the firs...

Re: Calling all Belt Drive Experts

Thanks for posting your single reduction set-up, it has inspired me to chase the lightweight/low-power set-up dream again... I'm certainly no expert, but I've been tinkering around with 3D printed HTD5M pulleys and #25 sprockets for a few years on various esk8 and other LEV projects. I think 15mm HT...

Justin, I think you might be wrong about th 190kv being optimal.... I believe that mainly applies to usage for skateboards And the gearing that will fit on a E-board. I don't see any reason it shouldn't be able to run a much higher kv motor. I could be wrong, switching speed, electrical rpm Could l...

Re: Guys running printed pulleys- do your belts squeak?

I get zero squeak with these new belts, problem solved. If you buy cheap belts, expect some squeaking.

PETG pulley is holding up very well, easily over a hundred miles on it and no worse for wear. Even the little rocks and glass shards I pick out of the grooves seem to have little impact.

Re: Guys running printed pulleys- do your belts squeak?

I changed my belt to a Vex Pro and squeaking has been significantly reduced. It was dead silent initially and now, after about 20 miles on the new belt, I get a little squeak when I squish it, but not noticeable when riding. I'll keep testing...

Re: Aluminum extrusion subframe build

Got my VESC back from chaka about 2 weeks ago and it is very nice to replace the FVT. The vesc lacks a little grunt on start-up compared to the FVT, but having reliable brakes, the nunchuck and FOC greatly makes up for it. I've been running 10s lipo for the last couple of days and boy does that litt...

printed one in Winbo Petg and it doesn't make a noise. my belts are htd5m-15mm wide belts. from alibaba and made of fiber reinforce rubber. maybe different setup to yours. Cheers Alex Mine started out quiet too, but after a few rides the squeaking began. Keep us posted either way! I still haven't c...

Re: A thru-the-gears serial drive- KISS, COTS, No FW cranks!

If you are running a rear derailleur and a rear cluster, how is the chain routing back to the jackshaft? Doesn't look too much closer to the rear compared to the bottom bracket but definitely high enough for the chainstay to be in the way. Looks like some good progress. Final drive comes off the 16...

So, with this type of gear box you will be cranking two sets of sprockets, one engaged and one free? I agree completely and this is the direction I'm headed with a prototype 2-speed set-up. I only let you go forward with that build if you promise that you will install some kind of guard before taking it for a test ride. That big sprocket next to your leg can do some major damage.   The danger of being mauled by the mechanism is part of the allure 8) This se...

Re: A thru-the-gears serial drive- KISS, COTS, No FW cranks!

Got the ACS tool and removed the 13t freewheel and , with a little heat, also removed the 16t track cog from its old adapter. This set-up on the kona was using a 5/8" keyed shaft, but I was only able to source 1/2" ID bearings with an OD of 1 1/8". The 1/2" shaft looks a little puny in comparison to...

This is my series/parallel plug set-up. Covers are printed in blue PETG from eSun and the outer tube is a standard 3 x 4" PVC gutter downspout. The two printed endcaps are held in place with a 1/4" threaded rod and one barrel nut on either end. The DB25 connector handles the balance taps. No flash n...

Re: Guys running printed pulleys- do your belts squeak?

I'm using a pulley printed with 3d solutions petg and it just started squeaking today, kinda blends with the motor noise so its not that much of an issue. But i'm going to print another one with TPE (Flex ~90a ish) and see if that works better. its still stronger than abs, cheaper than nylon.. Alri...

Regarding the suspension squat: When I first swung a leg over the new set-up, I felt it was unrideable. The rear would squat and the front would come up with zero effort, but after a bit of time it's amazing what you get used to. Now, I just roll the throttle to settle the rear and then apply more g...

Post by BrandtR » Wed Mar 30, 2016 2:41 pm I use pla for my pulley with a 9mm pollybelt brand belt and I haven't had any squeaking. I would say its the belt that may be at fault. Pollybelts are quiet cheep and i haven't broke one yet. I would recommend them. I'll check those belts out, thanks. The ...

Guys running printed pulleys- do your belts squeak?

My belt is really squeaky and all the noise seams to come from the printed pulley/belt interface. I'm using a crappy Ametric HTD5, 15mm wide belt and I printed my pulley using eSun PETG. The PETG is holding up fine, though little rocks tend to stick into the grooves- becoming embedded in the plastic...
