Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I have noticed a difference with the 52V pack to the extent that it is the 'daily driver' pack. Not just with speed, but there is an overall better feel to it. I also decided to give a 52V pack a try when I read a post in some other forum from someone that looked at the ratings on the MOSFET's that ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

That's the video I watched before I decided to use a 52V battery. However, the one difference for the Frey I have, I have to adjust the charger down to be below 58V, as my bike will not power up if it is above 58V. Accordingly, I set mine to disconnect at 57.4V.

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I think the icon you are referring to is the backlight status of your controller display, which can be dimmed or disabled. On my bike, I bought it with the Shimano lights already installed. They are not activated via the controller, there is an on/off switch on the headlight. The tail light also has...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I see what you mean. Indeed the Canbus integration issue notwithstanding, I guess all I can attest to is as long as you can supply anything in the range of 48 to 52 volt battery packs to those two points, the system has no other checks to see if the battery is proprietary, so nothing special is requ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Aren't all batteries that are 'in frame' integrated batteries unique to that bike? For example, the battery on my Giant Full-e does not fit other bikes either. The Frey M600 has 4 contact points at the bottom of the battery bay. 2 are positive and negative that come in from the charger port, and are...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Interesting. Not sure what the reference "lack of battery compatibility," refers to. 52V perhaps? I've had lots of issues I've identified, but I was very happy with the fact that Frey gave me a discount for not buying a battery, but also sold me 3 empty battery packs at a very reasonable price so I ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Interesting, I did not realize the OEM thumb throttle on my Frey could be improved on, I haven't thought much about it. However, as you note, I use it all the time when I need assistance on short steep pitches, and it really helps when you want to power out of deep snow on the side of a packed trail...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

The section in your picture of the battery end cap on Page 4 can be easily removed and replaced. Take the end cap off the battery pack by removing the 4 screws. After you unsolder the contact points, you can remove the 2 screws and pop that contact panel out. Get Frey to sell you a new panel and sen...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I've ridden my M600 about 250km's now, and have started to notice that on one trail I often take, I pedal strike some root taps and rock evulsions on the trail that I've never hit before when the bike is upright but the pedal is the bottom of the stroke. Is that what this thread discussion addresses...

Frey M600 V2, Purchase, Pre, and Post-assembly tips

On Oct 3 of 2019, I contacted Frey about ordering a Frey M600 V2 and some extra parts direct from Frey in China (the higher spec version). The order process was painless, and my sales rep at Frey, 'Grace', kept me up to date as the order went through the various fulfilment stages. From the time I ma...

Re: Can heating up battery give longer distance?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've played with heated gloves for skiing for quite a few years. At the moment using bar mitts with liquid fuel handwarmers in them, work well, advantage is you can wear your summer cycling gloves at -20C. Re: DIY Balance Charging cells in a 14S battery pack without a BMS

Thanks for the head's up.

I monitor the charge while it is in progress with a multi meter attached to the power poles, ready to disconnect at 54.7, just in case.

Fortunately, there is a new 48v charger enroute, so that was a temporary measure to allow me to use the battery pack in the meantime.

Re: Can heating up battery give longer distance?

As I type this, it is -17C outside, which is the norm. I do not use the integrated battery when it is much below -5C. I've addressed this challenge by making up a small 10Ah external battery pack that goes into the padded saddlebag that is on my seatpost rack. (As I have a Frey M600 with the integra...

Re: DIY Balance Charging cells in a 14S battery pack without a BMS

Thanks for the info. I've never had one of these, seen them around, but just assumed they were mainly used by RC enthusiasts. If we assume that usually most eBike battery's will use a BMS with balance function, I'd guess that generally you could live without one if you always are dealing with batter...

Re: DIY Balance Charging cells in a 14S battery pack without a BMS

Interesting, be great to have one of those handy for when you need it. I guess if you don't have a switching power supply you could use the same battery that you use for your spot welder, and handy to have ribbon cable around and use it for sense wires if you do not plan to use a BMS with balance wh...

DIY Balance Charging cells in a 14S battery pack without a BMS

I used to live in a world where eBikes were powered with a Crystalyte Hub and a lead-acid battery, and you were tech savvy if you had a 1200 baud modem. Now I pay for my TekSavvy instead. I recently completed the build of a 14S2P battery pack for a Frey M600V2 (52V), and then discovered my BMS had s...

Re: Can heating up battery give longer distance?

I have an external 52V battery I carry in the bag on my seatpost bike rack that connects to my controller through an external harness I rigged up. Last week, when the temp was -15C, I placed a liquid fuel handwarmer in the bag beside the battery when I went for a ride. I did not notice any sudden po...

Frey M600 V2, 21700 battery pack

I recently received shipment of a Frey M600 V2 eBike. Instead of buying the 18650 OEM battery, which requires separate shipping via UPS for an additional $150.00, I decided to make my own. Frey facilitated my ability to do this by selling me three empty battery cases for the bike that I bought. This...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Ironically a friend had come over this afternoon with his scale so I could weigh the bike, but another poster had already said they weigh 65lbs, so I told him I did not need it. Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Good thought. I found that testing the FET's was a lot easier after I spent $5.00 on a tester last month. This is the one I got and it seems to work fine (this is not an 'affiliate' link):

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I don't think this will help, but a couple of observations that I recently had that might have some bearing when you are testing: 1: I noticed that here must be a large capacitor in the controller or motor that retains a good charge when the battery is disconnected, so you may have to remember to di...

they should fit just well if you put them in right position. Just some friendly advice for your production or testing team. It t...

I managed to figure out what the problem was, so it's probably worth it to post the solution here as it is possible someone else in future may unbox an M600 bike and have a problematic assembly with the same problem. The picture below shows the right side. The axel tube was not sticking out far enou...

Re: Latest FREY M600 2.0 pictures and video

Perhaps you can help with this. When I try to install the front wheel using the spacers that were enclosed, the fit does not work. It looks to me that the space between the dropouts on the Yari is 109mm. When I place these spacers on the wheel, their width is about 113mm, so the wheel will not fit b...
