Re: Motorizing a Catrike Speed- Best option?

A few years ago I powered a catrike pocket with a 750 watt motor with a 48v 20amp battery. It met your demands. I like grin tech. They have great products and advice. An important part of the build is proper placement of the battery. I was stubborn and needed to move the battery twice. To avoid rais...

Re: advice on new build

With 135mm drop out does that allow all combinations of motors and number of gears? Will I be able to use the transmission that comes with the bike?
Thanks,
Harvey

Re: advice on new build

Thanks for the comments. I have never experienced a front hub but I think the steering would feel heavy. Because I have experience with a rear hub and liked it I'm thinking to go that way. I will find out the drop out before I buy it. I am short. This is 26 inch wheels. But it appears that there is ...

advice on new build

boda_boda_pfb_st_profile.jpg I am considering buying the bike and adding a motor. I am looking for feedback if this is a bike that will accept a hub motor without problems. It is an aluminum bike so torque arms will be needed. All thought are appreciated. Also I'd like an opinion on the frame in ge...

2013 HP Scorpion fs26 trike, motorized SOLD!!!

2013 HP Scorpion fs26, nicely motorized FOR SALE Around 1300 total miles. Like new. The trike is the best of all choices for road cruising. It compensates for poor roads with an incredible suspension. I easily ride it on grass on my way to hard surface. I am small with lower back issues. The various...

Re: The biggest problem at 25mph+ is rarely discussed resist

Visibility is an issue however it is not as bad as you may think. I ride with a large colorful flag on a 6' pole. There have been occasions that i forgot my flag. The response from cars let me know that quickly. My current trike came with a 4' pole. It felt wrong in terms of car seeing me. I changed...

Re: The biggest problem at 25mph+ is rarely discussed resist

Ive been riding a recumbent trike for more than 10 years. I burn less than 16 watts per mile and I am willing to use throttle. If you were to give a recumbent a reasonable trial, say a week of riding, you would not think that recumbents are creepy. If you do try one make sure you have a large colorf...

Need help to find 20g wire connectors

I use andersons for heavier wire. But I need some connectors for 20-22 g wire. I am using spades and hate them. There is a high headrest on my trikes seat. I've attached a grin red blinking light to the headrest. From time to time I remove the seat for various tasks. The tail light wires need a qual...

Re: Cars Cutting Me Off: Do Horns Help?

In some situations no matter what precautions you take, shit happens. The best we can do is make an effort to have the highest probability of good outcomes. That is as far as we can do. A few years ago a guy was riding his recumbent trike over a bridge. There was a bike lane that he was to the right...

Re: Cars Cutting Me Off: Do Horns Help?

Tomz, It looks like you will need aa and aaa batteries for the lights. More maintenance and expense. You already have the power on board to power your lights and a horn. If I had a non electric ride I would have an airzound. But with power no need to repump and replace batteries. Set it and forget i...

Re: Cars Cutting Me Off: Do Horns Help?

I had an airzound before motorizing. I liked it. But since motorizing, I have a large battery so I added a 12v converter and bus bar and fire up lights, horn and stereo. The issue with the airzound is you end up out there and it is low on air. Because I do not depend on aa and aaa batteries an elect...

Re: Tire Pressure Question

If your skeleton is OK and bouncing around a bit does not affect you then keep the pressure high. Do you have suspension? That will affect advice. No goop. I get heavy duty tubes if possible and heavy liners. I ride with a spare tube and tools to change the tire.

Re: Cars Cutting Me Off: Do Horns Help?

I believe in lights. I have a grin flashing, or solid rear red light. I have a stella 500 in front. I set it on strobe during the day. it has low med and high, strobe and off. Also I have a colorful flag on a 6' mast. A big difference on a trike. I have mirrors left and right. And a motorcycle stere...

Re: Cars Cutting Me Off: Do Horns Help?

I agree that smart, defensive, and intuitive riding make a large difference on safety. But I can't go along with a horn has no safety value. On many occasion I ride past cars parked head in. I'm on the lookout for backup lights. If the brakes are on also I'm OK. But no brake lights gets a horn blast...

Re: Cars Cutting Me Off: Do Horns Help?

I find horns useful but not when they cross in front of me. I'd still honk at them from anger. It is valuable whenever you see backup lights on cars and trucks. Especially in an area with head in parking. Once there was an oversized 4 wheel drive pickup that was in reverse coming at me. Horn saved m...

Re: Has FL legalized Elec Bikes???

For years part of my ride includes a 1/2 mile wooden boardwalk along the Indian River. Very scenic. There are signs posted no bikes or skateboards. Nothing about trikes so I ride it. I offer maximum courtesy and politeness to all pedestrians. It has never been an issue. Several years ago the cops we...
