Re: Advice on Proposed Battery "Modification"

Hi dogman dan. Ya, the pack is nearing the end. My whole bike took a beating on a fishing trip to Montana, and that certainly had some negative impact on this battery pack. It has been a really good pack, no complaints at all. But the bike is no longer used to get me to and from work every day. It i...

Re: Advice on Proposed Battery "Modification"

Update. Been working on my "mod" today. Although one cell is obviously shot (see photo), the pack and individual cell voltages were surprising. Here is what I found: Right after charging (not a full charge): pack voltage 56.9v, individual cells ranged from 3.54v to 3.44v, with the bad cell at 3.35v....

Re: Advice on Proposed Battery "Modification"

Hillhater and Amberwolf thanks for the great advice! The pack tripped the BMS on my last ride and the cell groups now test pretty close, which surprised me. This pack charges up to 58.x volts, but rapidly drops to 53.x volts, and gives me 2-3 ah before it trips the BMS. I'm going to charge the pack ...

Advice on Proposed Battery "Modification"

Hi Everyone. I have a 48v 10ah LiFePO4 battery which, like many others who have posted here, did not last me to infinity (or beyond). This pack has powered my bike for the past five-seven years, and has been a good, reliable pack up until now. The pic below will show the problem - a cell that has pu...

Re: Tidal Force S-750 Build by mikeross

Hello Again, everyone. I have been off the list for a while! What I finally did to solve my battery issues was to buy a different 48v 10ah pack, and also put the 36v pack back together with no BMS, balance charging once in a while with the single cell chargers. Then went out for a ride on my bike - ...

Re: Serious strangeness from 36v EVC Headway pack.

I've got 3 and only need to replace two. Plus I have another "weak" one which may be OK, not sure. Was going to keep one for an extra, or if I ruin another one putting my pack back together.....but, if one more would help you get back on the road, then PM me. You might also double check with The Jou...

Re: Serious strangeness from 36v EVC Headway pack.

the shunt current on the ping signalab v2.5 is about 70mA. .070A X 12h = .84Ah so that is why it takes so long to get them to balance. initialize the pack with multiple charge then (short) discharge cycles. the first 4 cells carry the BMS circuit current so they will drain down while the others rem...

Re: Serious strangeness from 36v EVC Headway pack.

The three cells from Michael at EV Assemble did arrive on July 29th. Michael did provide a valid tracking number for the shipment in the end. Now I have to figure out how to get those bad boys back into my pack. Then put the BMS back (maybe) :) . Getting back to the purpose of this thread, I have no...

Re: Serious strangeness from 36v EVC Headway pack.

Thought I better get my 2 cents worth in here. Sorry for messing up your thread, Stud. I ordered 3 Headway flat tab replacement cells on June 11th from EV Assemble. Long story short - they still have not arrived, and the tracking number I was given my Michael last week is not good in the Fed Ex syst...

Re: The official "My Tidalforce S-750 frame creation" thread

Triton: That n'lock stem is really interesting. The big advantage is that you don't have to carry around 10 pounds of lock - it is just a part of the bike. Of course, it won't deter the really serious thief, but I don't need that level of security. These S-750 bikes look so nice, they are certainly ...

Re: Tidal Force S-750 Build by mikeross

Time for an update. I'm still waiting on 4 more single cell chargers from Voltphreaks, and my replacement cell order has not worked out so far (I don't want to talk about it). Therefore, I currently have a 10s Headway pack, no BMS installed. I am discharging the pack 3-4ah only, then charging back u...

Re: Serious strangeness from 36v EVC Headway pack.

PM sent. In my experience there WAS a bad/low cell. Even though I thought it was all charged up and balanced. One cell was low already, with less than 2ah used from the pack. So, the BMS was correct in shutting down the pack, I just couldn't believe it. Be careful to check the individual cells if th...

Re: The official "My Tidalforce S-750 frame creation" thread

Hey, Triton, you forgot the motor! :) Wow! Very nice. I really like the way that Bafang looks as compared to the 9C. How do you like the performance from that motor? Is it noisy, does it get hot? I am not familiar with the n'lock security system. Can you write a bit about what it is, how it works, c...

Re: Serious strangeness from 36v EVC Headway pack.

Hey, Stud: Nice work on the BMS replacement! Those directions from HTB_Terry for wiring the BMS are really good. You had asked about getting some tabbed Headway cells. I am *trying* to get some through evassemble.com but it has not been real smooth so far, and, with shipping they are just under $30 ...

Re: Tidal Force S-750 Build by mikeross

Preston: Thanks for the information. I've got a Tenergy charger from Ebay - so far, so good, but without that I'd be up a creek. My bulk charger just would not charge up the pack, so I left it on for a long time (12 hours at least) and that's when I blew that one cell that is bad - at least that's w...

Re: Tidal Force S-750 Build by mikeross

Wanted to put in an update on my Headway *experience*. I ordered 3 replacement cells from EV Assemble on June 11th, but they aren't here yet. My replacement 24v pack developed a nice bulge, so had to quit using it - that's ripped apart on my workbench now as well :( . In order to have something to p...

Re: Tidalforce S-750 Build by Preston

Hey, pvorlicek: I like your build a lot! These Tidal Force frames are a great start to a very nice ebike. You made some wise decisions regarding motor/controller/rear rim build. I am seriously thinking of rebuilding my 9C stock rear wheel - with all the weight on the rear (from me, battery, motor, a...

Hey, stud: Since misery loves company - let me just tell you that I've got the exact same headway pack as yours. Mine is in pieces on the workbench. Re: The official "My Tidalforce S-750 frame creation" thread

I've updated my TF bike to a rear motor 9C e-BikeKit.com motor with a 72V Bosch Fat Pack battery. It's a very sweet ride. Stable and very powerful. With the 150mm Manitou front suspension fork and only a bit of leaning back, you can pop a wheelie! Ambrose - Very nice! That is a mighty clean looking...

Re: Tidal Force S-750 Build by mikeross

Just a quick update. Following frodus' advice, I *bravely* got out my screwdriver over the weekend and removed the two suspect cells from my battery pack. It really wasn't that hard to pry the tabs off and remove them. Cell #2 is toast - the single cell charger light won't even switch from green to ...

Re: Tidal Force S-750 Build by mikeross

Does your multimeter have "autoranging" turned on when testing cells? Bingo, Mike! I have a pretty decent Greenlee multimeter, but apparently need more instruction on how to use it. My dead cell is actually measuring right at 198 mV (i.e. not Volts). You have to wait something like 2 seconds...

Re: Tidal Force S-750 Build by mikeross

Bike looks nice Mike very clean on the install. A bit heavy in the back end I would bet. My first was that way too but got used to it and had no problems other than feeling a bit of frame twist around sharper corners at higher speeds. You did a great job hope you get the battery thing werqed out. H...

Then take it out for a spin until you reach LVC, and quickly measure the cell voltages. frodus: No can do. The pack is totally dead at this point - it won't even light up the CA. Cell number 2 does not read anything - my multi-meter just puts out random numbers like it does when you first turn it o...

Sorry Mike, but I don't think there's an EVComponents anymore. El-Steak: That is unwelcome news. But it does explain why I haven't received a reply to my inquiry regarding the battery pack. if a cell is going to 1.9V, its a dud.... you should replace it immediately. frodus: Two things about this pa...

Re: Tidal Force S-750 Build by mikeross

Hi, SunCoaster: I *think* it is the same cell. I also think there are two designs for this pack - one design with two stacks of 6 cells and another design (the one I have) with two stacks of 5 cells and the last two cells crosswise in front. The one that is crapped out on me is the top, left cell on...
