Re: Squaring a Drill Press Table

I use a magnetic base with my dial indicator mounted on the table. Then, mount a known straight rod (drill bit) in the chuck and touch off on a 90 degree from 2 sides or from both sides, if you are worried about table warpage. Harbor Freight magnetic base with rods for around $15.00 with coupon.

Re: List of small hatchback cars

Daughter had a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe, I believe, and she was sideswiped on Interstate Hwy and rolled it 3+ times. 3 occupants escaped with just soreness including 5 year old in car seat. Insurance totaled the car and they went with a NEW Hyundai. Love it, especially mileage. This is in East Central ...

My Son is not an A/C tech either, but, he fixes them sometimes. He says 90% of the time, the Capacitor inside the cover on the outdoors cabinet goes bad. These are for starting the unit and you seem to have everything running, so, my guess is refrigerant needs attention. Youtube has many A/C video r...

Re: Recent buy Chevy Volt battery module concerns

If that strap is connected together firmly, just take a piece if wood and shove it down between the strap and the end of the pack. Maybe use clamps to push the pack together some while pushing the plywood or similar down. Then, take loose the TOP set of the 4 bolts that hold the bottom together and ...

Re: Auction.com / automatic bidding software?

Once bought a foreclosure house. Found an ad in a newspaper and went and talked to the guy. He had a contact in banks that would allow him to privately advertise houses under foreclosure and we took this one and moved in with no money needed except for his fees which were very reasonable. Once the B...

The Lebowski controller is BLDC. Been there and all but begged him to figure the code for the ACID. Paul Holmes has an ACID controller as a DIY or preassembled without the power section, I believe, and Johannes Huebner has another. Huebners needs the encoder board added. Holmes might have added code...

Re: Buick Lacrosse 2012 e-assist moto-alternator

You are correct, it's called BAS + (Belt Alternator Starter) system. In 2009 was the last year, then, 2012 was the new Gen 2 E-assist system. Melon, which do you have then, Gen 1 or Gen 2 ? I thought about getting a Gen 2 controller/inverter, but, they are located in 2-3 different areas of the cars....

The Gen 1 is a permanent magnet alternator operating on 36V. It was very weak compared to the Gen 2 at 115V.

Re: DIY Super Capacitors, and Robert Murray-Smith

I watched a video last night from a guy that took activated carbon and ground it with a coffee grinder. Then used 2 mesh sifters and shook them over his kitchen sink, allowing the very fines to be washed down the drain. ? Then he used the next coarser ground stuff to "attach" to 2 aluminum plates us...

Re: 700 mile charge in 1 minute

punxor has the same numbers I got with my calculations. I sometimes take a full 4.1v battery and connect it to a 3.0v battery to get it up to chargable voltage and the wire connection gets warm in a hurry. I'm a retired power company lineman, among other types of employment and have had huge plasma ...

I took a stab at calculating the battery pack needed for 700 miles, then figured 450 Whrs/mile and my calculator went blank. Have to figure what voltage and amperage before calculating, then figure in 1 minute charge ?? I just don't see it happening.

Ok then. In the link I provided, the guy took 2 SMART APC UPS's, which are true sine wave not modified square wave, and they were not equal output. One was 950 W and the other 1500W if I remember correctly. Been watching videos quite a bit lately, because wife and I are both under the weather. He us...

Re: 24V/48V UPS as an inverter for mini power-wall

I have 2 of the older 24v 1400 Kva SMART APC UPS's. They put out a true sine wave. I believe I can parallel them to get twice the amp capacity and add computer fans and use them as my inverter for my partial off grid system with Chevy Volt modules. You tube has some really smart people that show how...

Too poor the buy another welder. This is wired with 10 Ga directly from 120-240v line from the house 3/2 twist service cable. It's flux wire because it's 56 miles 1 way to get a bottle of shield gas and no vehicle. That's why I'm building the reverse trike. Always worked well and used to do a good jo...

Boost 110v AC to 120v AC or slightly more

The power company down here keeps the voltage on the house side to around 108-112v. I keep after them to boost it up to 120v or so, where it should be. As long as I am the only one complaining, they just ignore me. As anyone with AC voltage knows, 108-112 is extremely low. In my shop when I try to u...
