Re: Help converting an RV house battery to lithium

Has anyone considered using 3s lithium with a large diode and charged separately. Connected to a lead acid battery?
Under a large load the lithium could support the sla reducing the Peukert effect?

Re: Chevy Volt individual Cells FOR SALE. 10C 15Ah

Just wondering. If you test a 3p cluster as a single battery and it acts like it is three times the capacity of the single cell, wouldn't that mean all cells are okay?

I am interested in some for both my ebike and more importantly an off grid camp.

Thanks

they are ten years old and were even run quite dry. Never equalized. I'm running on a wheelchair battery now used when I got it. Either you maintain them or not only kinda extends capacity life and not Chronological life. I chose to go with a high capacity and milk them down. Maybe I should just go ...

I used the" get a really big battery and small solar cell and just use them up" method. Lasted 8 years. 4 trojan T-105's and a 60 watt solar cell through a 20 amp controller. I would really appreciate any info on lithium replacement. Need 200 amp peak C to power purchased used 1000w full sine wave i...

Just a thought rattling in this old head. What if you tried a design for a driver and 1 or2 passenger transporter. If it could be kept under 100 pounds it would be legal in a lot of this country. 750 Watt motor. Is it possible? A good market maybe exists for this. Fair goers, nursing home transporta...

Out of the box.

Might you possibly invest time money and effort in more energy efficient appliances?
Reducing consumption is equivalent, no slightly above I feel, to augmenting generation.

Re: Existing build and want to change battery chemistry

Excellent project. A couple reasons come to mind. Because of the Puekert sp effect, you can expect longer range from the exact same kilowatt hr of capacity if the weight were the same. It be much lighter extending the range even further. You should have enough room, that you can get even more capaci...

Ben Franklin is credited with saying "a penny saved is a penny earned". No longer true. A penny saved is about 2 pennies earned!!! Income taxes, cost to earn money and all sorts of other things get you that second penny. And in your case maybe even a nickel. Congrats and thanks for sharing.h

Thanks for the post. It does give one a great feeling to first be aware of this connection, then to be able to be the highest value contractor. Good luck.
Being the highest value contractor, you can save them money which will keep them in business at a price that will keep you in business as well.

Re: wind generator for heat, no electric

As far as energy storage goes water is good but I have been looking into phase change mediums. PCM for short. Here one is storing energy in the latent heat of melting. Storage vessel Size can be much reduced. The collector can be run at much lower temperature which would signifigantly increase effic...

Re: Toyota Mirai - the fuel cell vehicle goes into productio

Luke Converting natural gas, methane, to hydrogen is called reformation. Not stripping. It is an endothermic reaction ( absorbs energy ) If the energy required for this reaction could be supplied by solar thermal then the process can be very energy efficient. ICE efficiency is about 18 percent. Fuel...

Re: What's the most efficient way to turn wood into electric

Make wood into methanol. Use methanol to power fuel cell. That, in my humble opinion, would be the most efficient way. Espesially if solar distillation is used. Excess methanol could be used to power an ICE.

Re: What a mess and it's going to be expensive to all of us

One solution at least on a physical chemistry standpoint is fuel cell coupled solar reformation. Use the energy of the sun to change methane to hydrogen, this ie called reformation. CO2 is still a byproduct but the energy available is almost half again that of using the natural gas in any other way....

Re: Photovoltaics not putting out enough amps.

Most Mppt controlers allow running a higher voltage say 60 v to charge a 12v battery system. If yours will allow this then consider putting your panels in SERIES and program the charge controller properly. A big advantage is a greatly reduced energy loss in the wiring going from the panels to the ch...

Re: Ideas for solar hot water tank???

I know that you probably want to have a very low budget for this, but have you looked into evacuated tube solar collectors. The ones I am thinking of have no fluid in the tubes. The heat is collected and then stored in a manifold using a phase change medium. You could put up one small one on the roo...

Re: Males: is your color vision deficient? Color Blind?

I am partially color-blind. This is a dominant recessive gene. That means it is on the X chromosone. It is more prevalent in males because if a female has another X without the gene on it that female will not be color blind. (kinda what is meant by recessive). My mother was color blind and all male ...
