Re: Bryan Lunduke ( linux nerd ) argues against commercial electric cars

I watched a youtube video with ceo of xpeng ( chinese ev maker), he described the plans for his company, what surprised me is that he said the cars will be for data collection, and the data sold onto third parties i.e. google style business. I'm just trying to refind the video, will post if I find i...

recharge amphour reading meaning

I have two lots 24v 10ahr in series, runing 48v ebike. After my normal ride ( 4km very approx), both 24v packs are down to same voltage or very close to same voltage, but when I recharge there is quite a difference in ahr it takes to fully charge each pack. What information about the packs can be gl...

Re: converting from gas to electric economy

thanks efMX for that link to retrofit kits from chevybolt, you know if the all military spending was transferrred to retrofitting current
ice engines with electric and batteries, it would be much better use of money, not realistic I know.

soldering nickel turns out to be simple

I've always had problems soldering nickel coatings, watched a video on youtube showing a commercial acid being used, thought I would try some rust converter I had lying around ( happens to be phosphoric acid), and bingo, just a little of it and the solder sticks extremely well. Also makes soldering ...

soldering aluminium

just came across a very nice way to solder to aluminium, not sure what sort of amperage it would handle, guessing would be ok for pretty high amps but only guessing. Its a very simple method to coat the aluminium with a thin copper layer first before soldering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z14aU-...

converting from gas to electric economy

Just some thoughts I've had recently. Seems the goal now is conversion from gas ( petrol ) based transport to electric, and it looks like this might actually occur, maybe in the next 20 to 30 years. Quite remarkable really that we are living in the beginnings of a transition period. There are some i...

heres a very interesting detailed video of how lead acid batteries are rebuilt in 3rd world setting, looks india or similar country. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEvPjOKkPyE i dismantled a lead acid car battery some years ago, wasn't very careful and landed up some slight lead poisoning (persista...

Re: lithium battery factory in australia

So the chair of Energy Renaissance lasted only 6 months ( Su McCluskey), although she is still listed as chair on their website, there is a new chair person, Dr Bruce Godfrey. I think thats really not a very good way to start, but I'm guessing this will be the norm. here is interview with the former...

heres a company video of CAT-L production line, its look damn fast, until you notice the workers are all speed up, the film is all sped up, leads me to wonder if telsa video of rolling electrodes together was actual speed or not. Did seem awfully fast.

Re: tesla tabless battery

heres another way of looking at it: light blue vertical lines=insulation red= copper orange= copper grey ( thin/vertical lines x2)=aluminium For simplicity only copper end shown, you would effectively have a copper solid mass ( red/orange lines), that would act as heatsink and electrical contact ( I...

Re: Louis R fire with UPP

had a quick look at the video link, alot of suppliers will give specs which aren't accurate. Its quite common. If he was running at 40% rated continuous current things should have been fine, but lets say the seller wasn't honest or didn't know the exact figures for continuous or peak rated current (...

Re: Tesla battery day announcement

I guess another change might be going to flat pouch cells instead of spiral wound eventually, as the cylinder cells leave alot of empty space between cells, I'm guessing its faster to spiral wind them ( after viewing that video its damn fast to wind a cell). looks like end cooling will be the way to...

one thing not mentioned as yet, that heating probably mainly occurs on one electrode preferentially , suspect the copper might have more heat being electron source during discharge ( correct me if i"m wrong), charging is at lower amps and aluminium sheet will be heat source but not as significa...

Re: tesla tabless battery

slight edit on the video grab, those spiral wound ends, one copper and one aluminium, I"m really convinced you could just push end caps directly onto them, perhaps the outer portion of the end cap could be slightly angled to push the spiral wound ends together a bit more tightly. like this: end...

ok hope that makes sense, anyhow here is some annotations I've done on the patent, lots of pics most should be self evident, but will save you guys having to read the patent. I've just gone over the patent for tabless battery and another look at the video, below is a grab from the video, which is rather interesting, it is from new cell plant near to broadcast, it shows large cell being wound, note there is no laser cutting of the ends. I actually suspect you dont even ne...

Tesla 4680 tabless battery

My thoughts on what it is: first pic shows top and bottom are aluminium and copper, heat transfer to top and bottom without going over the plastic separator between copper/aluminium, basically heat goes to the ends. so basically electrical path is same length as heat transfer path ( that is the chan...
