Re: Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

I can certainly envision a world powered by LFP ( cheap when it becomes dense? ) along with solid state, plus at least one other technology that seems currently like vaporware.

I can also see enthusiasm for DIY builds rise from the dead :pancake:

Re: Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

Ive been skeptical on the break through scene for years take everything with a pinch of salt till something is proven all known faults highlighted. I know most people have, but i think some of those '5 year promises' are about to actually become true. I knew battery technology would advance a gener...

Re: Return of the ES wiki!

The wiki has been down for >5 years and has been un-hosteable due to severe performance/DDOS issues, stemming from the software design. It also has a form of database corruption. It's a big pain in the ass basically. Wiki.js does have an import feature. Let me talk with Mr Kahuna and see if he can g...

Re: Move to XenForo software

Just some news.. I spent the last month moving my work flow from Windows based to Linux Desktop based.. and it was tough because i do video editing, audio production, 2d vector/raster graphics, 3d graphics, web development, etc! Learning an entire set of new programs was the hardest part.. but the p...

Re: Welcome to Members' Hobbies and Interests

I'd start, but after once attempting to jump through the hoops needed to move posts with this crap forum software (that I refuse to spend one more minute learning) I think I'll wait until we get the "new improved" version before screwing around moving other people's stuff. 👼 I don't blame...

Re: Welcome to Members' Hobbies and Interests

This would be a great place for a 3d printing thread. We also have some things across the forum that can get scooped into here. I don't think anyone's feathers will get ruffled if some threads get moved here.

Welcome to Members' Hobbies and Interests

Hey all.. this section was previously named the beer section.. the health/food section.. and still has yet to find much uptake on the forum. So how about about we broaden the topic a bit, and talk about other stuff that spherites are interested in in the biker bar. Tell us about: Your gardening Your...

Re: Will your computer be able to run Win11?

All I read on it was that people are buying complete computer systems for the graphics card then selling the computer without the gpu or a lesser gpu no longer needed. Its taking more and more startup capital for a proper R.O.I. with crypto mining. Linux Mint is pretty cool I like it a lot the base...

Re: Will your computer be able to run Win11?

I'm having a ball with linux mint over here and running win 7 or 10 in a VM with lots of ram to compensate. I have a hybrid windows and linux workflow now. I'm about to throw a second graphics card in so i can do a GPU bypass to a windows VM for my game playing purposes. Linux Mint is blazing fast a...

Re: Sur Ron/Luna XX "Ludicrous" mod

No idea what they are doing now, but in the past I've seen shunt mods for the BMS to prevent tripping. This won't keep the cells from overheating though. Before I added the second battery, I was able to overheat the pack and cause shutdown. I see their "engineering department" hasn't chan...

Re: Return of the ES wiki!

The wikimedia engine we used to use had extremely poor organization by default.. Not fun to browse, and certainly not fun to edit. No surprise to hear you had a hard time referencing an article. Also, we ended up running two sites with duplicate information.. it ended up being an avenue for a very s...

Re: Cowardlyducks - E-BikeE builds

For 20" forks, the spinner grind seems to be fairly well constructed, and suntour also makes some nice 20" suspension forks in various firmnesses, with decent stanchions, if you're unhappy with the Chinese one you bought. Finding one that doesn't hit the pedals on a CLWB is another matter....

Re: Cowardlyducks - E-BikeE builds

It certainly punches! Even factoring the usual exaggerated specs I reckon it could do 200A peaks, 80A sustained without breaking a sweat. At full throttle pulling 60A it only sags about 4V which is pretty impressive for some no-name Aliexpress '40Ah' pouch cells. That is impressive; i believe my ma...

Re: BYD's LFP blade batteries - heavy but extremely safe.

I also scratched my head on that one. It may be relative to one component of the battery, and the presenter got something mixed up? idk.

Basically these batteries come out to around 160whrs/kg with packaging, which is actually impressive by lifepo4 standards, but not by >2011's NMC standards ;)

BYD's LFP blade batteries - heavy but extremely safe.

Ultra safe, cheap, big LFP pack. Gotta love how it 'fails' uEvR3kyx_KM I wouldn't drive a 5000lbs EV with a pack like this, but i think it's cool that they were able to make the pack so safe that it wouldn't even emit much smoke. Would be cool if the same thinking applied to other chemistries to at ...

Re: Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I do wish we saw pre-built bikes with that type of arrangement......specifically left side drive with a planetary gearbox for the first reduction (which also functions as an output shaft support). 1. Such an arrangement wouldn't widen and/or make uneven the bike's q factor (cranks). 2. High amount ...

could just ban drinking? Just a thought. I love riding my electric velo intoxicated. The only one at risk is myself, and it is loads of fun. The only close calls or accidents I've had riding either of my velos, I was 100% sober, oddly enough. When I use either for work, I ride sober, but when ridin...

Interesting findings on Oroxylin A, it's reducing my caffiene usage somehow. I just want less. Very strange. Nothing else has done that. Of the other interesting substances that come out of skullcap is wogonin. That stuff is in phase 2 clinical trials as a mild disease modifying agent for arthritis....

Next steps at this point:
1) Work with Justin and his designer for an improved color scheme/aesthetic.
2) Install and test all of those Xenforo plugins.
3) Get the sticky posts copier written.
4) Moderator and user feedback/review stage.
5) Set the release date

Re: Hyundai shutting down internal combustion engineering department to make EV motors

But currently, EV's catch on fire less often than gas-powered cars do. And EV ranges go up to 450 miles, which is more than enough to be competitive with gas cars. 12 currently available EV's have ranges >300 miles, which again is competitive. Tesla battery packs have lasted 300,000 miles without g...

Re: Hyundai shutting down internal combustion engineering department to make EV motors

Nope. The batteries we have right now work just fine. Sure, we could make them cheaper and figure out better reuse/recycling systems for them. But we don't need any new advances. I agreed with everything you said except this. We need batteries that are denser, don't-self ignite during a number of f...
