Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Some onboard video of the Electric Belite! Not quite enough authority on the elevator to flare for a proper three-point landing. I have a list of fixes to apply: Move the CG rearwards by moving the rear pack to the rear of its tray. Adding some oratex to the elevator to act as a gap seal there Verif...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

The CG range is 34.5" to 39.1" from datum, and my CG sheet shows the CG at 36.25" so it is for sure towards the front, but my measurements may not super accurate (amazon digital crane scale and a forklift picking up each corner until level). I bet that the CG needs to move aft, as this behavior is t...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Heya all! Tossing up an official flight report here for the zero powered Belite. It's a bit of a saga, so hold on. After a day of slow taxi, a big teardown and inspection, a day of fast taxi and another inspection, finally yesterday 10-30-18 was the first flight at Madras airport from 16 in the gras...

Woot woot! Still downloading and an official flight review to come, but it did the flying thing, and it did it really well.

Front landing gear seems to be over beefy ?
The front gear legs are as-supplied in the kit, but the tires are tundra tires for landing on "unimproved" runways.

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Its done! The cowl is on, and the taxi test is complete! Need some brake adjustments, but other than that it was a fun and uneventful afternoon ad KBDN. Post test teardown and inspection results TBD. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1953/30094581237_cb37b4fe4f_h.jpg received_1402458506524024 by Jackso...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Wings painted, lights and folded-wing tie-down clips are in. Did a runup in the driveway for the first time in 8 months, and it started and ran beautifully! Go figure . Will be more than casually following FAA AC 90-89B for the first hours of flight. The phrase "Just fast enough to kill you" comes t...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Woooo! Last week we got the covering on the fuse and tail, and got the paint sprayed. Looking good! Tricorn black and OSHA red for the colors. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1869/44398726121_d398ee36e5_c.jpg 20180831_234224 by Jackson Edwards , on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1866/294800262...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Making more progress! All of the panels for the fuse are cut, but we had to call it a night to wait for the glue to dry on them. We did get the right side panel roughed in and glued on though. Todays goal is to get the whole fuse roughed in, and then to start work on the stabilizers. Friday is tidy ...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Alot of the foam cored composite structures are glued with gorilla glue, i love the polyurethane glues for a medium strength glue that just works. Although the West systems epoxy with the 404 filler works soooo well for high strength bonds. And for the ultimate in anything-to-anything flexible mega ...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Making some more progress on the odds and ends that I need to get wrapped up before covering the fuse, and once the fuse is covered. It will be ready to fly! The first thing was to make the aluminum shrouding around the tail feathers complete. This helps blend the fuse to meet them, as I was not sur...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

I am pretty new to flying (whopping 6 flight hours logged) and the simulatiors (FS10 and Xplane) have been usless for the flying thing, but really usefull for practicing a flight. Doing it ahead of time lets me familiarize myself with the taxiways, the runway layout, what your route (and arrival air...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

I made some more progress today. Got the V2 shock struts made and they look great. No more sagging ass all the time, and neutral position and preload are all much better. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1757/42049035084_38c4615fba_c.jpg 20180612_170821 by Jackson Edwards , on Flickr https://farm2.sta...

Great to see if able to taxi on it's own steam - the e-aero equivalent of spinning the back wheel of a bike :D

How far off a maiden voyage do you think you are?

Likely a couple months out, but mainly because I need some flight instruction time lol.

Burlier shock struts are in the works for sure. It has ~200lb/in springs now, and I just ordered some 600lb/in springs. https://www.ebay.com/itm/111415538426 Ill likely be building new shock shafts too, as the existing ones simulate out to fail at ~3900lbs each, and just over 3klbs at 10K cyclic all...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

My guess is more like 10-15kw max (output, measured at the tyre) on such a short wheelbase bike with a good sized rider up top like that from what i see on the vid. ive had bikes like that over the years and anything even near 200-260NM at the wheel is enough to mono like mad. And if that 25r batte...

Oratex is pretty dang nice. Adhering it to large surfaces is tricky to do without wrinkles, and temperature of things is tricky. but its coming together really really well. UZLH_2tMoGo STOL is all about wing loading and horsepower, the Belite should be really really good at this. The cub has a 173 sq ft wing area and weighs 1400lbs with pilot accord...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Getting some more work done on the belite, but introducing a new twist to things, a new house! Awesome as the new place is, moving an airplane is a tricky thing, and hangar rash is real. Careful as i was I still managed to ding the leading edge of the horizontal stab, and put a massive scratch right...
