Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

This is an interesting graphic of Australias electricity prices (indexed) over time 1955 to date with some key events noted. Also the timing of the introduction of wind & solar in quantity starting 2005. But be aware , even the 18 TWh of RE shown is small compared to the 230+ TWh of total annual pow...

..But that is not adding to the overall hydro capacity available.
Hence the proposals for adding a lot more generation to existing dams.
Unless you have a suplus of water that you currently run through spillways, more generation will not increase total capacity (GWhs).

Re: Inside an LEV50 prismatic cell

Aparently there are 75ah, 50ah, and 40 ah versions of the GS Yuasa LEV cells
The Mitsi Outlander PHEV uses a 40 ah version of this cell 80s, 1p config..12 kWh.
Nice video of the pack being dismantled...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Personally i have no problem with garbage incineration, i believe its better than landfil garbage and hopeing it doesnt cause a contamination or gas problem in the future,( plus it is not sustainable.) Also it would seem sensible to recover at least some of the energy that went into much of the garb...

After Googling. !!...
It seems there are two versions of this cell ,.
After 2012, the improved GS-YUASA, LEV50N , having a different electrolite..

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Sure, more generation (of any sort) can help to conserve water supply for hydro.
..But that is not adding to the overall hydro capacity available.

Further, it the climate alarmists are to be believed, there may not be a much river flows to feed existing hydro....many of which are already...

So, in 10 yrs, you think the US will have ~50% wind + solar ?
Im willing to speculate the US never gets to that level.

I am talking about the US as a whole. Drastically increasing renewables, and a more reliable grid than ever. Surely Australia can figure it out too.
The US as a whole ??... Has only 11% wind and solar combined. !

That grid functioned perfectly well ( and cheaply) without a battery, until the levels of Wind and solar increased to over 50%. OK. Our grid functioned pretty well before batteries and renewables. Now it functions even better. Perhaps there are some lessons to be learned there? :?: Californ...

:D yes, obviously the authorities responsible have never seen the kids on a BMX track, let alone a decent DH bike.
Looks like they are installing some nice "whoops" for the kids.

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Solar panels don't have a problem sitting in the sun with an open circuit on their output so can be switched off. Wind turbines can feather their blades. That is my understanding also, but we still hear of states (CA, ?) , countries, (Germany), having to pay other adjoining grids to take surplus en...

But they have already got the WORLDS BIGGEST BATTERY, ..and it doesnt even register on the supply chart ! The primary reason for that battery is not energy supply - it's grid stability. ANY system, whether composed of coal plants, nuclear plants or solar, needs to either run with a lot of margin (3...
