Re: Nobe 3-wheel EV car
FYI... There used to be a UK game show called. “Take your Pick”. Basic stuff with contestants answerig a few questions and if successful, they could choose to either take some money, or “Open the Box”. any one of several sealed mystery prize boxes. One week (several maybe), the secret top prize was ...

Re: Nobe 3-wheel EV car
The 7 was a very different car to. The 6 using much revised chassis and better running gear
..from memory, that “C” registration suffix would make that a 1965 build vehicle....so not likely to have been in the earlier DM episodes.

Whilst Drake didnt get to do much driving in “The Prisioner”, i think you will find the car was a Lotus 7 ,..not 6,..the same as he drove in “Danger Man”

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.
The reason it would not work on a car is because you're only lightening the car in relation to going upward. Going forward the full weight of the car is still pushing back on you Yes, exactly,..... it is the difference between “weight”. (Due to gravity),.. and Mass ( due to Density ) Toyota recomme...

Re: Tesla battery fire at repair shop, as shown on TV -old news from 2017
Yes, certainly a “Spinel short”. Can initiate a fire, ..but that would be isolated to a single cell without the “thermal runaway” effect of other close cells bursting into flame , despite no spinels ? The rapid explosive “Popping” of 18650 type cells in a pack fire is due to the heat transfer boilin...

Re: Towing a directly powered EV conversion
No, not electrical drag, just mechanical. Having to spinup that (xx lbs) of motor armature to 4k+ rpm every time you accellerate , and even to keep it spinning is going to give significant drag. ..ever ridden one of those flywheel spin bikes in a gym ?. If it were me, i would put the rear whells ont...

If this takes off, it will be a game changer for EV ownership..
..Much Cheaper to buy.

...recharge time a non issue..

Re: Towing a directly powered EV conversion
How far are you going to tow ?
Spinning that motor via the road wheels/ diff, etc willboth needa significantly higher tow force than a simple car with the Gearbox in nutral.
At the least your tow vehicle fuel usage will be increased.

Re: Tesla battery fire at repair shop, as shown on TV -old news from 2017
There is NO lithium metal in a typical EV battery. What is involved are LITHIUM OXIDES, and LITHIUM CARBONATE SALTS , an inert compound that does not burn and is infact prescribed as a medication in tablet form. What burns in a battery fire is the Organic Electrolyte solvents which are used to carry...

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.
The consumption standard i use is Litres per 100kms.....so.no confusion there. Sure you could make a lot of improvements, but if the goal is to reduce fuel usage etc , then a switch to a more efficient base vehicle should be an option... but i get your angle. OK. There are many other cars i could ha...

Well, that is certainly not what i was refering to !
I was refering to a Kart class with engines that cost $100 brand new ! .. 6.5 hp 200 cc 4 stroke generator type motors.
Like these.

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.
So why not both.. both are ideal in any vehicle Priorities.... where do you spend most time <20mph or above ? I've driven all the hybrids on the market and hated how they handled, had sluggish power response, etc Really ? Even the Volt ?... i dont think it can be called sluggish .. (0-60 in under 7...

Re: Motorsport, Racing, The Future
NO... .. by lottery i do not mean they win a motor, .. ..i mean everyone buys an identical stock standard motor (typically a “Clone” of the Briggs 6 hp industrial, costing about $100 ).. then they hand it over to the club “pool” of motors where it is “sealed” and numbered. Then Before racing, the dr...

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.
Nep, Im sure you are aware that ar typical car speeds , <20mph, aero is FAR more important than any weight saving. Things like those wing mirrors, wheel covers, front splitter, undertray, rear spoiler ,..etc would all be higher on my priority list than trimming weight. ..Or, just trade it for a PIP ...

Re: Early Teslas don't have a Low Voltage Cutoff- pack turns into a brick.
Old news... This was an issue with some of the earliest Mk 1 Roadsters (2008^~) , and caused by owners not sticking to the battery maintenance recommendations of periodic recharging if not used regularly. Tesla installed automatic alarms to alert owners and changed BMS controls on later versions. Th...

Re: Motorsport, Racing, The Future
The grassroots side is far different. You HAVE to find ways to limit the ability to buy a race to keep costs down or else you are back at karting with a $20k/year engine budget. Speed is less important than close racing which can be participated in by people of average income. Every form of sport h...

Re: Tesla battery fire at repair shop, as shown on TV -old news from 2017
I suspect the fire hose “run off” from any industrial fire is likely to be “Dirty” ...often even toxic. It is inevitable, and probably considered the lesser evil than an uncontrolled fire. But drenching lithium batteries in the surrounding area to those on fire, to cool and prevent them burning and ...

Finger and toes crossed for you Jonescg.. There's about $20k worth of cells here gone to waste, and I need to make this car roll again. So I need to sell the race bike, or something. I'll own it. But it likely means I'll stop building batteries for people. I just can't afford the risk. :( Battery bu...

Gruber !.. one of the few companies that will repair Tesla batteries..
i wonder what their insurance premiums are now ??
But even in 2017, the fire dept had “no ideaa” how to tackle a lithium battery fire.. ??
... and just let it burn out !
..worrying !

There are bound to be many snags to work out.. not least being how to get different car makers to agree on a “standard” pack size , voltage, coolong system, BMS controls etc etc
AND, so far no mention of the cost to the end user !
