Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Solar panels don't have a problem sitting in the sun with an open circuit on their output so can be switched off. Wind turbines can feather their blades. That is my understanding also, but we still hear of states (CA, ?) , countries, (Germany), having to pay other adjoining grids to take surplus en...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

But they have already got the WORLDS BIGGEST BATTERY, ..and it doesnt even register on the supply chart ! The primary reason for that battery is not energy supply - it's grid stability. ANY system, whether composed of coal plants, nuclear plants or solar, needs to either run with a lot of margin (3...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

If that's the case (generation shortage) then install more solar. That will give you more generation; more total energy.... But it wont give you any more power at 2 am,...or the next day when its cloudy,..etc What is missing, ..and you refuse to recognise , ...is sufficient reliable , continuous, "...

What options are available to restrict the output from a PV solar panel/ farm ?
Do they have some form of control available ?

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

..... Without some other constraint, it does seem like PV generation would develop a rounded peak, rather than a plateau, on a clear day. Solar output "Plateau" profiles are fairly common on large scale installations ( Solar Farms) ..i assume that it is due to the single axis tracking that many use...

Re: 18650 questions - How does internal resistance relate to voltage?

So measuring the resistance is creating a circuit? I guess technically maybe you are right because you are creating a path but never in any of my years of schooling did anyone claim measuring resistance was completing a circuit. Can you send me links on these threads? If using my DMM isnt the corre...

Will see if I can hook up temperature sensor to 206B and link it with the PC to get any useful data. Then we can evaluate.
Hook up an ammeter as well so you know exactly what current you are discharging.

Most Australians heat their homes with electricity? Here it's propane or natural gas. You must not be aware of the Thermal Solar plan for SA. Another $650m or so, for a 150 MW solar tower with 8 hrs of storage. If you do the maths, that averages out at <60 MWh equivalent continuous..if the sun shines 100% ..except in winter when there is not enough sun to run the plant at all !! True...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

[The SA grid needs more POWER (600+MW). for long periods of time ..12+ hrs at a time, often much longer. Which means they need a lot of ENERGY, (7-10 GWh) I very much doubt they need it for "12+ hours at a time." Look at the demand curve; it peaks once, and it's not anywhere near flat. This new 210...

Re: Tesla 18650 question

This is a reputable test (Lygte) of a Sanyo (Panasonic) 18650BF,..very close to a Tesla spec cell...discharged at 5.0 amps.
Even at that rate (1.6 C) it only increases 25-30 deg over the complete discharge..

If they need POWER to stabilize the grid, then BESS makes more sense. Do you understand the difference between energy and power?.....
